the Pit River

I just got back from four days of fishing the Pit river below lake Britton.
My buddy and I were the only ones fishing and we didn't see another soul the whole time we were there.  The fishing was fantastic.  We caught lots of wild rainbows that averaged about 18 inches with some over 20 inches.  I lost a couple that must have been huge.  They broke me off with 8 pound tippet.
I used mainly golden and brown stonefly imitations.  Size 10.  The water clarity was poor but we seemed to  catch lots of fish anyway.
The wading there is treacherous.  If you go, bring a good wading staff.  Not the little collapseable kind but a stout staff that won't bend or break because you will definitely fall at some point.  The hardest river I have ever waded but if you are careful, it can be done safely.  Definitely my new favorite river.

By mid Summer the fishing is still good but the water temps start getting a little high and the fish don't fare so well after a fight.

Me and a buddy fished The Pit yesterday(friday). It was well worth the effort. Caught a couple fish on dry and a bunch more using 6 different nymphs.

Went over to Hat in the afternoon and "fished" powerhouse riffle #2. Eight people jockeying around trying to cast to the same fish. Not my idea of fun. We tried the lower river north of 299 and saw a few salmon files out. We hooked a nice one but it came off.

Fished the lower Sac for a couple of hour this morning and landed a chunky 16". The flows on the lower sac have been eratic lately and it sure slows the fishing down.
