No New Posts Putah Saturday 10/29 evening (Preview)
Fished Putah for about 2 hours from 430 to dark yesterday.  Landed four (all on a dry fly) had six on. Good time for two hours and a twenty minute drive.   Edit: all were 12 inches. -- Edited by georgek on Sunday 30th of October 2011 10:29:21 AM

No New Posts 11/1 and a big thanks (Preview)
I first want to start off by giving a big THANKS to SK60 and those that helped out on 10/28 for the weed removal session on the creek with DFG. It was a last minute decision from DFG to do this, and a last minute scramble from SK60 to make this happen, and in only a few days he rallied the troops and got it done...

No New Posts Online Survey Update (Preview)
You've completed almost 60 online forms since the flows started down in September and almost all have reported fish caught (mostly 12" or under, but some larger fish are starting to show). Thank you for your efforts!! and please keep them coming!!!

No New Posts First Timer at Putah (Preview)
This weekend I am going to fish Putah Creek for the first time. Out of curiousity, what are the best flies working right now? of course I will bring my go-to flys, however I dont know what to expect on this river. If I am correct, there is a zero limit rule? Even better. I have heard good things about Putah, b...

No New Posts Putah on the rise (Preview)
I've been lucky to go out a couple days in a row in the late afternoon. There is a lot more surface action than I ever anticipated or noted before. Some little guys were literally flying out of the water! I could not see anything actually hatching so I assume it was midge emergers. A little further down the...

No New Posts Good day on the Putah (Preview)
I fished the Putah today.  The flows have been steady for 2 days just under 100 CFS. I figured that the trout may be settled in to feed before the spawn...  The first stop was a ziltch.  The second was a skunk but the third spot was worth it.  I had three to the hand mostly in the 8-10" range on a sparkle p...

No New Posts Saw someone who MAY have been bait fishing today (Preview)
Long time lurker here, thought this was worth a mention. I fished nearish the bridge for several hours today (caught one that shook the hook just as my net went in the water, still a great day though!). As I was leaving I saw a guy on the Canyon Creek Resort side fishing with spinning gear and a bobber. I did...

No New Posts The Forum's Most Controversial Topic Each Year: Fishing the Spawn (Preview)
I believe Nic started this thread last year and, as always, it generated a maelstorm of differing opinions from "stay off the redds to"stay off the creek" altogether. I am convinced that a number of folks were so intimidated that they did give up fishing during the winter. Starting...

I have been fishing a double nymph rig for the last 12 years.  I was thinking of trying a three nymph rig.  Is this legal at Putah or California for that matter? Thanks Dave

No New Posts New Zealand Mud Snail (Preview)
Since I plan on fishing Putah shortly after a 4-year hiatus, I broke out the waders I use for Putah.  Since the NZ snail debacle, I've only used these waders at Putah. Surprisingly, the sole of my wading boots were covered with tiny dead snails.  These can only be from PC as I haven't used the waders or bo...

No New Posts Report 10/5 (Preview)
Despite the on again/ off again rain, I decided to hit the creek after work.  Flows were about perfect, not too high, not too low (yet).  The rain didn't seem to affect water clarity, in fact the creek was as clear as I've ever seen it.  Picked up a few fish here and there on the usual patterns.  Noticed hea...

No New Posts Whats up with the flows!!?? (Preview)
Before the thread question starts again for this October about whats up with the drastic drops soon followed by sudden jumps back up in the flows, I can tell you that its due to the cleaning of the Putah South Canal by Solano County Water Agency. They drop the flows to muck out the sediment and weeds in the...

No New Posts The Putah humbles/ how deep is too deep? (Preview)
Just when I thought I had some mojo going... I fished the same spot where I had my best day ever, ~ same time of day using the same rig and flies, drifted through the same water.... No fish.  I think I had a couple grabs but no fish love.   I have a question: The slow flow hole below the faster water/thalweg was...

It was pretty good at Putah Creek yesterday, but only for small to medium size fish (at least for me).  Flows were down so some of the goods spots were accessible.  There was a mediocre mayfly hatch around 2 pm, but not much else.  I landed 13, had 18 or so on and probably around 8 more missed takes.  Most w...

I want to thank the 15 volunteers, more than half of that number from this board, for spending their Saturday morning picking up the refuse from the bridge parking lots down to fish access five. We collected 34 bags of recyclables and trash-at least 175 pounds worth, had a nice lunch, and then some went...

No New Posts Found: set of rafting oars (Preview)
While walking the Creek on Wednesday, I found a pair of oars that someone had brought up from the Creek and left in the trail at fishing access 5. These are high-end oars and worth some bucks. If you know anyone who might have lost them during a high flows spill, please have them e-mail me to identify and r...

No New Posts Posting Pics: Putah vs. Other Streams (Preview)
This post is NOT meant to attack anyone or point blame...Simply consider:   After reading many threads discouraging hotspotting on Putah Creek (The Good, the Bad, the Dumb and Dumber), I am bewildered why forum members post pictures and provide locations of other fly fishers' home waters (Big Fi...

No New Posts Going Fishin Tomorrow (Preview)
90% chance I'll be at the creek tomorrow.  Went last month for the first time in 7 years, got skunked, flows at 500 then.  Just a little hint on color or type of flies would be much appreciated.  Hope to see someone out there.  If I do catch anything I'll make sure to fill out the survey, I didn't last month b...

Help! There have been very few sign ups for the cleanup next Saturday. Since the fishing is so good right now, sign up, clean up, and go fishing afterwards. I'll even have some free PCT T-shirts and caps for those helping out. Info below. Again this year PCT is sponsoring the interdam reach for a CCC cle...

One of the reasons I go fly fishing is to unwind.  believe it or not Napa can be quite noisy . Well sunday while i was fishing at the bridge  I hear this loud exploision followed By the screams of a small child  . Not just a little screaming but on and on . a minute later more booms  . and then it dawned on me  the...

I took my kayak for a paddle along access #1 today.  One little guy liked my #20 black midge...  A bit of success goes a long way...  It's good to see young of the year in the water. And yes, I filled out the survey!   BTW will answering -2 on the surveys get us more resources?  Just wondering.

Thanks to SK60 and other members willing to provide some wisdom, I had MY best day on the Putah EVER yesterday.  So much so I got in trouble with the wife for staying too long! No New Posts Fishing rpt for Thurs afternoon (Preview)
This was my first time fishing in the summer at Putah.  All the usual hot spots were under water so much of my time was spent hunting for fishable places.  It was frustrating in general as many of the obvious "fishy" runs were inaccessable. I hooked 5 and landed 1 small fish.  Had another 3 gra...

Took the old lady out camping this weekend. I saw a fish chasing damsel fies but not too sure what it was. We rented a canoe and took it up stream. I saw a pod of fish that were roughly 5lb average. I thought it was large trout but might have been squaw fish. I didnt't see ANYTHING else from the fork down to the b...

Cabin fever had me at my wits end yesterday and decided to hit putah late morninig today.  Turned out to be a good day out there.  I just realized I have only fished putah twice this summer.  Picked up a couple Putah bullets and had some fun.  My question is this....the 1st fish had these weird lesions or m...
