No New Posts Another Crayfish Pattern (Preview)
With all the talk of you guys hitting up the Big T soon, here's an effective crayfish pattern for the Truckee that I'd like to share.  It's Tim Haddon's Dead Drift Crayfish.  Andy Burk turned me onto this fly a few years back.  I always keep a few on my Truckee River chest pack insert. The two videos are fr...

No New Posts Does anyone actually save $ tying bugs? (Preview)
As for me being able to save dough on tying my own trout bugs. I guess I would have to tie constantly for a couple of decades to make up for my modest tying kit. I tie for fun and variety, and to understand the fish/prey relationship better. Has anyone ever done a count of the # of flies they actually lose...

Some of you were asking when to get your flies in.  I was thinking today maybe by Sept. 1 would be good.  Gives us a month and takes a little pressure off plus we get our flies in plenty of time for steelhead season.  The run down is as follows Brian Clemens-Caddis pupa JT-Nymph WT-Alaskabou Emerger-Pops...

I am listed as tying a pink and Orange alaskbou... however I cannot find any orange marabou.... sorry I though I had some, turned out I didn't and when I went to my local fly shop they did not have any.  So I wanted to check with people and see if it would be alright for me to change colors... maybe pink/purpl...

I'm a little hesitant to even bring this subject up because it took us awhile to get it together and finished last time,  but.......let's do another fly swap.  With all the talk of the upcoming season it got me thinking.  I was hanging out in the green room mixing up a batch of caddis when I looked over and...

Heres a caddis pattern I'd like to share with you guys, I do beleive it is hands down better then the elk hare no doubt. Pictures are not great but you can see the basics.  Would like to hear what ya think. I'm sure most of you have used em but thought if not it would be an execellent addition to any fly box.

What is the secret fly for the Pink Albert?  I can almost bet that DTP is up there catching those fish on the Upper Sac.  Anyone with a dry or nymph pattern should send out a pattern.

Hey if anyone has any good tips on tying secure wings with deer hair on dry flies let me know. Lately when I tie one on, it wants to slide around and not stay on top of the hook. It is really frustrating but there has to be some secret to it. Thanks, Conefish

Got my swap bugz in the mail today.  Thanks to everyone who tied, I know we all get busy.  Some awesome ties here in front of me and it goes to show you should tie your own!  They are all great, but who tied the GB wd40 pattern, very nice, and also the red wire caddis pupa, diver, emerger?  I took off my toe tags...

No New Posts New idea for extra flies (Preview)
I was thinking, instead of auctioning of the other 12 flies, we(all the mebers of the fly swap) could meet at Putah creek and fish for the set. This would be a chance for us to not only earn the 12 flies but also get together and share our tactics for fishing on Putah and other rivers like the Yuba and Feather...

I'm finished with mine and have gotten in 2 sets of other flies from WT and Otter and they look great! I think we shouldn't wait until we get 12 tiers because that could be a while. Anybody have a better ideas out there for glue that works for attaching San Juan Worm bodies to the hook? Hey guys, I hear a lot of you speaking about the RS2.  I've seen pics of it online, but were wondering how you guys tied them for putah.  I wanna try tying that pattern and adding it to my putah box. Thanks.

No New Posts Hey you fly tiers, how about a fly swap? (Preview)
I've done it before elsewhere. Here's how it works. We would need 12 tiers. You each tie 13 of your fly of choice. Send them to me with enough return postage so I'm not covering for anyone. Once I get all the flies from each of the 12 guys I'll put one fly from each tier in a set and mail the mixed set back out to e...

No New Posts Applying Dubbing (Preview)
I am wondering if someone can describe how to correctly measure the amount of dubbing to apply on a fly.  I have been having a heck of a time trying to get properly tapered nymph bodies on #18 and smaller hook sizes.  I seem to consistently apply to much dubbing, even when I pinch a very sparse amount of m...
