Question about tying large clouser minnows.

Well, I'm in full production mode for my next trip to Baja in April and have been tying clousers like a maniac.  I talked to Bob Alwine at Sweeney's (thanks for the tip Chris) and he told me that tying the eyes a little further back from the eye will make the fly swim erraticly and hence trigger more strikes.  What I noticed, however, is that tying the eyes further back makes the clouser tend to swim on its side, which while erratic, does look a little funky in the swimming pool.

Anyone have an opinion as to whether the clouser swimming on its side will matter to the fish one way or the other?

Bob knows his stuff, so at least tie some that way. If you are stripping fast it shouldn't matter. Here's my tip for clousers get some eagle claw 413 Jig hooks. These are the hooks Blanton uses for his flashtail clouser. They are cheap too. You can get 100 hooks for about 8-9 bucks.
