No New Posts PCT Fly tying Event (Preview)
The March 15th event was a real success for the group and Canyon Creek resort as well.  The venue was perfect, the fly tiers enjoyed the event quite a bit, our name got out even further and we were able to decrease the amount of raffle prizes that Steve Karr has been dragging around. It was great to socia...

No New Posts Creek Today 3.17.13 (Preview)
Went up to the creek today and fished for 3-4 hours in the afternoon.  Didn't get much action, got broken on 1 good fish close to the net and touched another and that was it.  But it was a lovely afternoon and was really impressed by how little trash there was generally. Need to explore the water below acc...

No New Posts Flows up (Preview)
Unless the guage is off, the flows are way above typical it seems to me.  358?! The median is ~ 100 for the previous 52 years.  I mean, there can't be that much demand this early in the growing season can there be?  Won't they need that water later on when we've had ANOTHER year of low precipitation?!   Not t...

No New Posts Good Day (Preview)
Decided to go out yesterday since I heard about the winter stones and brought along my better half. There were tones of those stone flies everywhere I went. I ran into a few other people who said they had caught one. I tied up a stone imitation  and a dark lord but got no love on it. Maybe I need to down size to...

No New Posts New to tying. Any suggests on beginner patterns to start with? (Preview)
Just starting to get into fly typing after fly fishing for 12 years.  Any suggests on good "beginner" flies that would work well at Putah?  I'm tempted to start tying up tiny midge patterns, but I was advised that I should start with larger flies, maybe in the 12-14 size.  Thanks.

Went out Saturday. Water was tinted in most places. I didn't see any bug activity until late in the day. I threw everything I had andonly managed one. I saw a few other guys who had zero luck. I watched a guy above me battle a nice fish. Seemed he needed help so I ran down a rocky trail with my net only to see him...

No New Posts Slow day (Preview)
My expectations were high this morning when my friend picked me up for a trip up to the Putah. The rain had stopped and the flows were up to 298. About where I like them.  Although it w good to get out and thre creek looked in fine shape and despite all my skill, nofish felt obliged to meet us.  We tried access...

I had a pretty close run into today on the creek. This kitty was around 100 pounds but not aggressive. I starled her in some thick brush and she went and hunkered down. Be careful out there, I notified DFG.  Let'snot turn this into a witch hunt. I just want to warn everyone to use caution out there. I would h...

No New Posts Someone tell me why the PC flows fluctuate so much. (Preview)
OK. I can understand that PC is basically considered an irrigation ditch to some people downsteam and they get some kind of priority much of the time, but I don't really get why the flows there keep going between 70cfs and 120cfs in the winter.  Wouldn't it be a lot easier and inexpensive to leave the flo...

No New Posts Where do fish Spawn? (Preview)
Since there seems to be some confusion out there.  If you see a bowl or even a deep pool 3 to 4 feet deep in front of a gravel spawning area the fish are digging in the deep water in front of and often times behind the gravel.  The bowls "pools" deep holes are actually where the fish are spawning.  ...

No New Posts Should I Go to Putah? (Preview)
Hi folks.  I'm a new fly fisherman, just started last season, and a friend and I are planning to head up to Putah on 2/25.  Is that a bad idea?  I've been reading the threads here and I've seen some posts advising anglers to stay away from Putah until April 1st.  I understand that it's the tail end of the sp...

No New Posts Happy New Year! And some good news today! (Preview)
I was on the creek after work today and ran into our resident volunteer entomologist (bug scientist).  The good news is that DFG was patrolling the creek looking for violations.  Specifically looking for the clowns hand fishing!!  I have seen the local DFG more this year than in many many years!   It s...

No New Posts Tenkara on Putah Creek ? (Preview)
Hi All. Will a tenkara rod work ok for fishing on Putah? I've read that they are great nymphing rods and protect tippets very well. They seem to be gaining an almost cult like following with some people. What do you all think?   WF

No New Posts Getting back out there February 2013 (Preview)
I grew up fishing Putah Creek with my Father. We spent many seasons fishing there and I have had some great fishing here over the years. Fast foward through college (when I never fished because I didn't have the time or desire) and I now have a huge yearning to get back out there and go fishing. I know it is...

Tried to submit two surveys from my last two trips and am getting an error page every time. Anyone else having the same issue? Any problems on the website end? Also. The good.  Caught a few bright silver small fish on the creek today in a deep pool. The whole river system is coffee colored. Cold Creek was flowing at 200 cfs today which pumped up the water level and dumped a ton of sediment in the water. Fishing was non existent from Cold Creek down. Ran into Steve today when he was checking out the spawn sites. Nice chatting with you. Next spawn clea...

No New Posts Flows (Preview)
What is the best flow for Putah? Does the creek swell a great deal after average rain storms? I haven't been out there in years and I'm looking forward to getting back out there. Also are the weekends generally crowded? Thanks for any info you might offer.

No New Posts Someone decorated a tree for me! (Preview)
I lose a good number of flies each outing on the Putah.  Those trees are so grabby!  When I first started fishing PC, I kept track of Flies Lost Per Hour Fished (FLPHF). Today, I may have gone POSITIVE!  After casting into a branch, I pulled down this Christmas tree...  12 flies in all (including 1 egg pat...
