No New Posts Anybody interested in floating this winter steelhead season? (Preview)
i am always looking for people to float with for ease of shuttling and portaging etc. I have a 12’ two man pontoon with swivel seats and a solid bottom to stand up and cast from, and usually float the russian and a few other rivers not far north of the russian that are usually fishable when everything else i...

No New Posts looking for a place for crayfishes around lake Berryessa (Preview)
I went to "Putah Creek Wheelchair Trail & Restroom" and "Putah Creek Public Fishing Acces" last week to try to catch some crayfish. However, it took us like 2 hours only to get 11 of them. Does anyone know a better location to catch crayfish more easily? Thanks! Has anyone tried the Lake Berryessa b...

It's that time of the year when my thoughts turn to steelhead.  I'm trying to set up a trip with my son to hire a guide and float the lower Sacto for one day, and then go over to the Trinity.  Anyone been up there lately, or planning a trip?  I'm wondering if smoke is still choaking the valleys of the Trinity a...

No New Posts Yuba River: Launching a raft below Englebright Dam (Preview)
Hey Guys, I've heard rumors of some Putah anglers carrying rafts down to the base of Englebright dam and launching down stream (portaging on the narrows class iv section). There’s a kayaking guide for this run, but from what I can tell, they’ve closed all access off from the public since the guide was p...

No New Posts Beautiful Colorado Cuthroat (Preview)
Gents: Been years since I posted, probably since 2010, back before I moved away from CA.  About the time we started PCT and got the regs changed... Big hello to my long lost PC brethren.  Thought I’d share a photo of a beautiful trout from Upper Mohawk Lake above Breckenridge, about 11,500 - 12,000 FT.  ...

No New Posts The Joads visit the Yuba. (Preview)
So I go to the Yuba yesterday and of course it's ATV day, with what seems like every offroad fan in Cal North in attendance. Whatever,  I'll be up on the island past the bridge. And so I find myself, fishing there when I hear a vehicle,  much louder than anything else in the area ripping up the riverbed behi...

been having a lot of fun fishing poppers for bass evenings after work in some local ponds and lakes.  have only been getting smaller males up to 2 lbs but they fight like hell on a five weight.  its sacrilegious to some, but most large bass ive hooked the past few years, like 4-8 lbs, have been on a clear int...

No New Posts Berryessa bass bite (Preview)
The bite is on.  I hit up the far side of the lake this morning in my kayak,  off the water and headed home at 2.   Roughly 20 fish landed and 15 or so missed grabs.  Split shot and plastics in 8-25 feet of water.    Most of the fish landed were smallmouth.

No New Posts Home water for steel (Preview)
no love on the carp river today.  Last Sunday it was mostly ice and unfishable.  The steelhead run is still 1-2 weeks out.  Wading is easy but you have to watch out for 1k pound glaciers floating down river.

1200 cfs with pitiful visibility, but the Skwallas are starting to show and I had fun. They really nail a rubber legs and I lost a football toad who snapped a 4x leader. I’m going 3x now As visibility is low. Get some and leave Putah alone for a couple more weeks.

No New Posts ice (Preview)
It's just a tad early in the season here.  Steelhead fishing on the Carp river, Michigan U.P.  Probably part of the reason most are fishing the ice. It's interesting how you take things for granted until you move and no longer have access to it (Putah).  Tight lines all and have a great new year.       -- Ed...

No New Posts Below Goodwin Dam (Preview)
Well, I made it down there yesterday. I went with a  pal, and I can honestly say that if you are over 50, that's a GOOD IDEA. The trail down is steep, and once you get to the water, it is deep RIGHT NOW. And I never thought that I would want  (or need ) felt soled boots, but with the scrambling over slick assed g...

No New Posts getting to the water below Goodwin Dam on the Stanislaus (Preview)
So.... how does one get to the aforementioned water. I have parked at the parking place below the dam, where you walk down the road to the river, but going upstream from there looked to be a dead end, complete with some deep water. Is there a trail that I just haven't found, or is it bushwhacking. I have dri...

No New Posts Northern California (Preview)
Took off last week for my first steelhead trip of the new year.  A lot of mileage for two days.  We fished the Trinity on day one.  The water was low and clear.  After fishing for most of the day with zero strikes we drove to my buddies cabin in Dunsmuir to thaw out.  The next day it was north to the Klamath.  N...

I'll be driving down to Carmel for a few days next week and visiting the area from Monterey Bay to Big Sur.  Been down there before and always though about taking a rod.  Any suggestions?  Take a rod and fish a beach or rocky area for stripers, perch, or kelp bass.  Leave the rod at home and just enjoy the ar...

It's that time of the year when I start having anxiety attacks thinking about going after steelhead.  I should have never started, and hate to admit it, but its developed into my favorite fishing vice.  Beware young men.  Talk about dumb.  No rain.  No water.  Too much rain.  Too much water.  Not here...

No New Posts South Fork American River 11/19 (Preview)
Hello everyone. I tried fishing this afternoon on the South Fork of the American River. Fished from Riverton but didn’t go far enough to reach Kyburz. I didnt catch anything, no bites to report either. I was euro nymphing with a single fly, just trying to get better at the technique. The water was quite...

Hi All, Anyone have a good recommendation for water as close as Putah but a little easier? My wife has really put in the work and tagged along with me for years now, I want to put her in some easy "just catch some fish" water. Doesn't even have to be trout. Anything as close as Putah that would hit this catego...

No New Posts Landslide almost got me ! (Preview)
Hi all, Been awhile since I've posted on this forum but I wanted to share an experience. When we go fishing we think of things that can cause harm to us. Rattlesnakes, Bears, Falling, Mountin lions, Other people etc. I never really thought about being hit by a landslide.  Last saturday I was fishing in t...

No New Posts Yuba river 8/25/18 (Preview)
Parked under the bridge on the near side. I wondered that I didn't see any cars, but I soon learned why. The trail down to the water disappeared after a 100 yards or so. The vegetation was really thick so the trail down went right to the water's edge, and soon enough, right into the water. Real pain in the as...

got there at 6, gate was locked. wasn't opened untill after 7:30. Went fishing and quickly caught  my first fish.  It was exactly 3 inches long. Then the wind came up from the west and rendered my new two weight useless for casting dries. Reverted back to nymphs and caught five more, the largest of which...
