Beardsley Res and Afterbay?????

Here's a question? Anyone fished Beardsley Reservoir and Afterbay at the SF of the Stan? Looking for a dispersed (free) camping spot from April 5th - 11th with my gal that is open, snow free and not blown out as most known rivers I've been checking out. So, I guess it's pontoon boat time and thought since Beardsley's open now, and it supposedly has a decent population of 'bows and browns... why not? I also hear this res is a family camping zoo later in the season, so maybe this is a good time to miss the fray, and the Pop Tart wrappers??

Any relevant info or alternative suggestions would be much appreciated guys. Gotta make a decision, quick. Thanks!

I have stayed at the beardsley campground on several occasions. It is free, Its right on the lake, and is a pretty decent place to stay, even in the summer. I have never fished the afterbay or the lake, I always go down and fish the river, And the river is excelent fishing, Thats all I'll say bout that. I have always seen the bait guys, and trollers with pretty good amounts of browns out of the lake, So there defenitly in there. It is known as a brown trout fishery, They regularly plant fingerlings or did up till recently. Beardsly is actually fed by the middle fork stan, not the south fork. I'm pretty sure the river below the afterbay is closed now but the afterbay is open year round. You should call the closest ranger station before going as they close the road if it gets to icy or it snows. I think its a really good call, I myself was just thinking of giving beardsly a try in the next week or two. Feel free to shoot my a message for any other info on the area I fish up there ALOT in the summer.

Hey thanks for the Beardsley info Shon! And the link Dutchman!

Yeah, I did speak with "Susie" at the ranger station this week. She wasn't sure if Beardsley's road was open either until I hit the Tri Dam website, and there it was, open as of the 24th! Called her back and informed her that it was open. Building up my Karma points I guess.

That's a drag that the river won't be open yet. But, I will bring the pontoon and see what I can dredge up and walk the afterbay. Fish should be up on top this time of the year at the res. Unfortunately, there's not a lot of info on fly fishing this res, mostly bait dunking, trolling and spinning. Oh yeah, and sail boating. I should be there long enough to figure out a pattern. Bring a couple of sink tips just in case.

Shon, I may take you up on your offer to IM if you don't mind. I'd like to know more about, "All I'll say about that". Also, if you are headed that way around the 5th through the 11th, stop in camp for an adult beverage or two. I'll be the guy with the yellow/grey Crazy Creek pontoon boat and quite possibly the only people camping?

Dutchman. I'll give Bob a call at SA. Thanks!

Beardsley it is.
