No New Posts How will the lack of rain affect Putah? (Preview)
It has been an extremely dry winter so far. If we go into drought conditions how will this affect the creek flows for the rest of the year? I don't think this dry season will be comparable to the drought in the 70s but.. It's coming close. How did the creek hold up back then?      Nic  -- Edited by Xnjb707X on W...

No New Posts Putah try Thurs 2/13 (Preview)
I gave Putah a try on Thurs.  I haven't fly fished in a lot of years so I pick the one place in the world with the most trees and bushes to rekindle my passion for fly fishing (I did not lose anything to the abundant forest but I did have to learn how to roll cast).  I did avoid the beds and hiked about half of the a...

No New Posts Fresh mountain lion kill at access five (Preview)
Stumbled on fresh mountain lion deer kill at access five today. I know these warnings pop up on this forum periodically, so here's this season's: be careful. They are out there. Scared the absolute crap out of me to see fresh deer head just sitting in brush. That's two big cats in one month — had a bobcat j...

No New Posts Anyone use a 10 foot nymphing rod on the creek? (Preview)
I'm thinking about asking Santa for one.  Seems to me it would work well in the close quarters of Putah and get your flies into some hard to reach spots.

hi. I am new to fishing Putah Creek and wanted to get some advice. I am specifically interested in fishing the Lake Solano area where fish may be taken. I do respect the water and ecology but I also enjoy a fresh fish dinner. Are there any special regulations that I need to be aware of? I catch both trout and...

No New Posts Is the flow report correct? (Preview)
It looks to me like the USGS PC flow report is stuck again.  The flow graph has been too steady over the last week.  Has anybody been out there to verify?  Would appreciate some feedback as I am thinking about giving the creek one more try before shutting down to give the fish room to spawn.

No New Posts Finally got out to the creek this Wed. (Preview)
It's been a busy Autumn for me, but I finally got out to the creek this Wed.  Was it ever crowded for the middle of the week.  There were cars at almost every good spot so you had to pick around to find fish.  I have a lot of sympathy for those who can only fish the weekends! The fishing started out slow.  Got gr...

I fished Putah Creek for the first time earlier today. Caught 5, but none bigger than about 12". Had a bit of adventure finding fishable water, but, once I did, it was a fun day. What are your favorite sections to fish? I stopped at all of the open access points and pulled over on the shoulder a few oth...

Came from work last Tuesday. Had laptop on floor. It was semi-tucked under seat, but it was visible - (I know, dummy me). Car locked with windows cracked about an inch. Someone pulled the window down on passenger side (and ruined the mechanism) and took the laptop. Live and learn, but I'm reeling about...

Great day of fishing at putah creek! Didn't seem to matter what section of the creek we fished but there were plenty of active ones around. Caught several fish in the 12-15 inch range and lost a few more a bit bigger than that right at the net. Also got outplayed by a fairly large fish who after a few arial as...

Went fishing on PC with a buddy a few days ago.  When we got to the run, I saw the scene in the photo below... No New Posts Spawn is on...believe it, or not. (Preview)
Folks - 3-4 fish were observed spawning over redds on this middle reaches of the creek today.  Very early for this, but might be due to the strangely low hydrograph for this time of year.  Regardless, please be aware of areas of "clean" gravel and fish laying out in the open -- please give the...

Flows are down the creek is on fire. Fish on the pre-spawn/winter chomp. You have to sort through a lot of little ones but the big guys are back in their usual feeding lanes again. My big fish went around 20" and made me chase him a couple hundred yards before politely unbuttoning himself right as I...
