Steven Haggard wrote a book on fishing the Tahoe area. Does a great job of covering this area.
I can highly recommended it.
Jim Schollmeyer wrote Western Hatch Guide. Another great book.
Putah's a little different. The best dry fly fishing is in the fall and winter but spring can be good with 16 stone flies and then EC caddis and hoppers in the summer. Be careful of high flows This time of year.
I'm afraid Haggard's info is not very accurate. Stone flies are rare in our reach of Putah and are not an important food source. Same is true of hoppers at high summer flows. But would be interested to know if they work anyway....
For dries during the summer red or black ant patterns work. There is a "hatch" of frogs this time of year that are about a size 12-10 if you want to experiment some with that. Also, sticklebacks are out in number this time of year. Small worm patterns and caddis also work too.
