so me and my buddy wanna take a small trip to putah creek fr some trout fishing, was wondering if we're allowed to go there or is the 'season' not open, anddd are we allowed to use our regular st croix rods or do we absolutelt NEED to have fly rods, just curious before i make the 2 hour drive out there
At Putah Creek (and throughout California) diversity is respected so St. Croix rods (by brand) are not discriminated against; all rods and reels are considered equal. The creek is currently open all year but a valid 2016 California Fishing License is required and can be obtained on line. You can print a temporary copy of your license in case you go fishing before the official copy is mailed to you. The only unique requirements at Putah Creek are that you just can't use any bait anywhere, anytime. Only artificial lures/flies with the barbs pinched down are to be used. You also cannot keep any of the fish you might catch. I had thought that treble hooks were banned on Putah Creek but apparently that is not so. As long as the barbs are pinched down I guess you could use a lure with a treble hook.
Putah Creek is a terrific resource for local fishers and it is in a lovely location. I hope that you and your buddy have a good day there and will recognize and help preserve this treasure.
