i had the same experience a few days ago, got a handful of fish < 12" with a griffiths gnat and a quill gordon, wouldn't pay any attention to #16 elk hair caddis though. Since resuming fishing in March this year, the only (small) fish I've caught at putah have been on dries, despite spending most of my time nymphing. Wondering if fish are moving around a lot and not in their usual spots with fluctuating/increasing flows? I saw some HUGE fish by the dam in late march and april, 4-5 lbs easily and a few maybe bigger than that, cruising and sipping midges, but am not capable of getting a convincing drift in the very slow, crystal clear water there.
