I have only been flyfishing for a little less then 2 years now and have always had trouble casting with shot on. I have read some posts that mention using a shorter leader when using weight, does this indeed help ? I also was curious what action rod casts weight better, i ussually use a medium action 8 foot...
I looked at the current flows for this weekend and it looks like it is going to be around 350. What is good for fishing? Anything under 400? Is a flow like 40 too slow? What's ideal? If anyone knows more on flows, let me know. ? -- Edited by bonefish1 at 16:31, 2007-09-12

Hey Y'all, A couple of friends and I made it out on Saturday afternoon around 4pm. Things started off fairly slow, or maybe I started off fairly slow, I missed three fish right off the bat.? Irritating to say the least, anyway I was using a tan fox poopah to begin, after I missed the three fish it got real sl...
I fished Putah this past Friday.? While cleaning moss of my nymph rig, I ket finding small worm like?critters?impaled on the hook.? I assumed they were?caddis larva, so I tied on an olive colored?Fox's Poopah, but had no luck. I have searched all over the internet for?a photo matching what I saw on the...
So - I went out to the creek Friday hoping to hook up with a few fellow 'posters' but I saw no one.? In a way, that was nice, because part of the appeal of fly fishing to me is the solitude it affords me.? Having said that, I am looking forward to fishing with other posters. I hit the water above access three aro...

I was ending my day of fishing just below the #4 access parking lot today, and a bunch of fire trucks an paramedics starting coming, then a rescue helicopter landed in the parking lot. I went up to take a look but one of the fireman waved for me to stay back. Looked like they were helping someone who had a med...
One day ago, at a creek not so far away, a battle between man and fish was waged.... ??? I arrived at 4pm hoping that the hazy skies and cooler temperatures would help the bite a little.? What I found was astonishing.? Bait fishers crowded the creek like zombies, stumbling out of bushes all around me moan...
Just got back from the creek and didn't see anybody out there.? Fished early morning to try and serve em breakfast but maybe I wasn't early enough.? Fished from low to half way up the creek. Only spent a half hour around the bridge.? Lots of little bugs and a few dries.? What happened to all the caddis this...
So, I got out to the creek today around 3:30 with a hankerin to try a few new things.? So, I went to a new spot - near access 4 and also vowed to pull a few streamers on my sink tip line that I've meant to use for the last ten times I've fished, but have always been to lazy to re-rig with. I started out nymphing some...
I FINALLY WENT FISHIN'! It has been some time since I fished due to some medical issues.? I went fishing on the Truckee two weeks ago and only managed to hook two, however I got one up close and he went 17 inches at least, it was exciting to have one on again.? Ayway this post is not about the Truckee River. I w...
Hi All, Pretty new to the creek but I wonder if anyone can tell me if buying an parking permit at one of the access points allows me access to the others on that day. Thanks, Bob
Went out early in the morning to fish the creek.? My plan was to fish pocket water for the day but it wasn't producing (one 10" wild bow on a #20 pt) so I decided to nymph the flatter runs above deep pools instead.? Didn't have much luck until after noon when I started getting into some planters on a #22...
Got up to the creek about 5:30 and fished til dark. Pulled a few dinkers up on nymphs - but the usual spots weren't producing like normal - I think there must have been quite a few fisherman around early... Anyway, killer baetis hatch around 6:30 - 8:00 but no real top water action. Did manage to raise a few...
I made it out this evening on the creek.? I ended up with a little over ten fish to net, the largest being a belly-bulging 17"er.? I lost just as many fish.? One of the fish lost was a really nice fish, about 20" and SUPER FAT.? He bent the hook out.? It wasn't on a #24 hook, either.? He straightene...
well i am new to this site and as of yesterday new to putah. lets just say i am glad that i met up with jt, yes i probably would have caught some stockers with my nymphs like what i use up in tahoe, on the truckie and on the carson, but after talkin to him, i would have never of thought to use such small and such a di...

I haven't fished Putah much and hope to do more in the future. I may get an opportunity to get out fishing in a few days. Befor...

First real day on the creek since my baby was born (aside from a random evening or two), and Putah did not disappoint. Thanks to running into Matt R, and observing his dead drift (watched him hook 4 fish in about 45 minutes), I've improved my skills enough to hook a fish that took me to my backing.? As soon as he hit he went airborn, amazing, and did it several more times.? Had him on for a good while, kept steady pressure, t...
