...at my feet and actually in my net...partially. Long stupid story about why I was hand lining him in the last few feet to get into my tiny net...but, bottom line, he broke my line off while actually in my net and flopped out. At that point, I trapped him under my net and tried to scoop him up, but came up w...
I've been saving money a couple of years to buy an old flat fender jeep but finally talked myself out of it, went a different route and decided to get more flyfishing time in. I bit the bullet and ordered a pair of G3 waders today but didn't feel like throwing money at boots yet. I've got an old pair of Wein...
The Online Angler Survey is working again. Please fill out a survey either on the creek or online each and every time you go fishing, whether or not you catch fish. These reports are forwarded to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife for their use to help improve the creek. There is a link on the...
I caught my first catfish on a fly rod. Little sucker tried to clamp down on my thumb. With all the water this year the bass were biting as well! Pound for pound smallmouth fight better than trout!
I have seen 5 people over the past three days wading with no wading belt on . In each instance I have warned the person that in water like this if you fall in you will DIE. While I fully understand that we are free to do as we wish regarding personal safety, the dad in me insists that I at least say something. I r...
A chilly and windy day at access #5. Wind blew relentlessly all morning and early afternoon. I did manage to catch 3 fish on small nymphs (the usual 18 to 20 size nymphs) and one fish swinging a wet fly, one of my favorite methods to fish for trout. It was a smallish fish, quickly in and back in the water, but...
I fished #3 for only about 90 mins yesterday. I tried some bigger stuff just for fun. Nothing. Then, switched to the regular tiny stuff and caught 1 little guy, but that's it. Anything unusual working for you guys?
Hoping to make it out tomorrow. Got a new Tenkara rod to try out, Iwana 12. Any advice on where to go? What to avoid? Really looking forward to just getting in the water and being outside for a bit.
Hello, I am new to fly fishing. I live 2 miles to San Pablo bay. Is there anyone doing striper fishing on a fly rod off Pinole bayfront park? or where is a good place to catch a striper on a fly rod from shore? thanks -- Edited by DrewC on Wednesday 19th of April 2017 08:43:12 AM
Went this morning for about three hours after being off the water for over 4 months. Fished the stretch of water from access 4 along the foot path down to the island, and the first three or four hundred yards of the island. It is possible to still cross the river to the island even at 800 cfs. Only very sh...
I saw somebody spey casting yesterday right above the fork at #5... Is that ever a good method for PC?? I wonder if that person had success. On another note, a man I was fishing with caught this young fish (still had parr marks) even with the high flow. Get out there! I was surprised by how chunky the fish wa...
Did anyone find a fly rod let on the creek . The only thing I can say to describe it is I remember rigging up one of my Rods for high sticking with red abnisia , not sure which one but I defiantly had one rigged, And now no rod rigged up for high sticking and I dont remember removing the Abnisia so I can only assum...
I was fishing out in bolinas this morning in the lagoon and caught three lincod on streamers. I had a blast feeling the fish attack the big flies. Has anyone ever fished Putah with streamers or tube flies? I feel it could be an effective technique at the large pool below monticello. I have personally nev...
I fished Putah Creek Wed. 4/5)2017. Caught two beauties (20 and 22 in.) in a hole on the private waters ( I am a member). The key was a long, 12 foot, leader, light 6x tippet, no indicator, and #5 splitshot 18 in up from fly (a #12 beaded birds nest). Only leader in the water, high stick or Czech techniques....
Looking at the annual flow chart, mid-April is when summer high flows start. It appears that we will be transitioning from this winter's high flow right into summer high flow. I will miss the easy 100-200 cfs waters.
Look at the size of the bass on Berryessa. 13.89 pounds! probably hard to get on a fly rod, but I have heard dragging a worm on the bottom is very effective. http://lakeberryessanews.com Also Pyramid is firing up if you want to catch a giant trout...
Anyone had eyes on Stony Creek recently? Havent been up there is a few years and wondering how it's flowing. The gauges are all lower down the river, below the reservoirs.
What goes up eventually goes down... potentially leaving future trophy fish at risk. Dropping flows may soon leave fish trapped in temporary pools. Help PCT identify opportunities to rescue fish. Glory Hole dumping may stop by some time this week and the creek may abruptly return to winter flows 5...
Gett'n itchy to go. just feel'n like day trip'n, until the main event. California dreaming. Along the river trail, the secret spot we all know well. fern and moss, encourage hopes. A perry poke and swing. Around rivers bend. Todays perfect tail out found. Black and blue, swung into shade 3 on 3 off...
I have a Brand new Hardy Featherweight fly fishing reel purchased last year for $400. Its sharp classic Hardy design is a great throwback to the English manufacture's glory days. It pairs well with bamboo, glass or even modern graphite rods. I went another way for my 4wt and would like to make $200 back...
