I was wondering if anyone ever has success using crayfish flies, either dead drifting or as a streamer. I see the little things all the time at the creek and know that fish love them elsewhere (e.g. Truckee).
Been fishing the creek for a few years now and today had easily my largest trout ever on my line. 24" roughly and fat as hell! Unfortunately after a few massive jumps it spit my hook out. I've seen others catch that size and a couple larger but what is the biggest caught out of here? Curious.
My lovely aunt sent me this picture of my grandfather after a morning of fishing at Putah. She believes the photo was taken in the area of the now Lake Solano park circa 1967 or 1968. The dirt road is certainly interesting! Looks like a Chinook to me
i lost an absolute HOG today. Three jumps and five minutes of sulking and PING, off to lake Solano. I'm just heartsick -- Edited by mudhen on Thursday 21st of September 2017 08:45:09 PM
Landed 2 on the swing (my first purely swing-targeted fish on Putah Creek - I had 2 nice tugs each of the previous two times I swung, but no connections). Then, I lost two nymping. Then, landed 2 more on dries - again. All decent fish. Attached are the swung up 'bows.
Putting my Diesel 590 outfit up for sale. Rod, reel, and extra spool if anyone is interested. Reel is loaded with a 5wt Airflo Super dry line. Make an offer if interested I'll send pics on request. Thanks

Thank you to the gentleman who gave me some tips and a #20 zebra midge! I landed a nice one! It's nice that the Putah community is a helping one. I'll pay it forward! I'll try and add a pic.

I've heard that there's a lot of spots and smallies that got washed into the creek from berryessa. These guys will hurt this fishery big time. Anyone else seen the pods of bass? I believe there's no special regulation for bass in this body of water. I'll be bonking ones I catch.
Early start before the heat wave sets in... Broke in the new Fish Pond Nomad as the smaller net just wasn't cutting muster.. A total of 5 good grabs with three landed. Nothing spectacular, but I'll take a 3-fish morning any day on Putah! They were between 13 and 17-inches... One came on a size 16 olive...

Late start and lots of anglers, but the fish were taking a variety of flies. This one took a #20. Makes my landing net look like a toy. Had to use it like a tray rather than a net.
And hotter than hell too. CHP cycles on Pleasnts Valley rd.i was only saved by the slow truck in front of me, ( whom I was cursing at the time ), and surpise surprise, the Warden was at #5. He popped a couple who were bait fishing on the front side and told me that he had not been down on 5 for years. Bully for him...
I found a small fly box at the creek this morning. (Sorry Rich, it wasn't anywhere near the staircase.) If anyone else lost one and can tell me the location they were fishing and describe the box and contents I will gladly return it to its owner.
Caught 2 and moved one that was easily over 2'. Didnt see a whole lot of fish activity. Not sure if this is concerning especially with the bass population? Did manage to pull a 23-25" to make up for the low numbers. I'll take that one fish any day of the year. -- Edited by Rossflyguy on Saturday 19th of Augu...
Anyone else going to give it a shot? I am curious to know if the fish are willing to play Monday. Hoping the event doesn't throw things off for a few days afterwards. However, we could get two morning hatches...
New member here. Decided to stop by to get a couple hours of fishing in and I found some sunglasses today (Sunday, Aug 13). If you lost sunglasses please describe them and I will gladly return them. - Derek
Always been curious as to why a lot of the bows I catch at PC have large orange slits under their chin. I've seen it almost exclusively on all the fish I catch larger than 16". I know they aren't cutbows, just thought it was interesting and haven't seen it on any other large Bows I've caught in CA. Could it be...
Hey fishing folks, if anyone is near access point 5 please keep a look out for a brown 4 1/2 ft section of a fly rod. I lost it today on the opposite side of the road on the trail. it's a bit of an heirloom and I searched for an hour with no luck Happy fishing and thank you!
I was fishing between access 4 and 5 last Monday and had pretty good response from the fish to the flies I was offering. It started from the time I got there and lasted to the time I left. Caught 13 fish in 5 hours. Not a impressive amount but a lot better than I have done lately. It was actually the best day at P...
