No New Posts Putah Creek Trout Celebration & Kids (Preview)
Hi everyone:  Just joined the forum, was planning on bringing my two daughters to the trout celebration this weekend... they're still pretty young so they'll have their kid spin rods, but any recommendation what I might rig them up with (knowing there's no bait, barbs)? Thanks, hope to see you out on...

No New Posts Float Tubin' (Preview)
My dad gave me a used Caddis float tube. After patching a leak in the bladder and recreating the absent spreader bar and dripping apron , I decided to take it for a spin. I had so much fun floating a couple slow deep holes on the creek. There was a short window ~noon that the fish were obviously more active. I...

No New Posts Where have all the fish gone? ( 1 2 ) (Preview)
I spent 7 hrs nymphing and didn't get a single strike! I've talked with a couple of fellows on the river and they had similar results. Are the fish on a special diet? Have they left their usual holds and gone walkabout? Or is this typical for this time of year?

No New Posts BROWN TROUT IN THE PUTAH!!! (Preview)
I took my new TFO BVK 8wt out to sling some nasty streamers.  After figuring out the casting, I was able to get some good drifts.  I was using a circus peanut fly...  The fly drifted right under a fallen tree and WHAM!!!!     I didn't think brownies were in Putah anymore.  This one must have been hiding for a...

No New Posts Found a nice watch (Preview)
Finally back to fishing, was on the creek yesterday and found a nice watch on a trail between access #3 and #4. Might not be fisherman's watch, kind of fou fou . On second thought might be a fly fishermans watch. Also found a jar of green power bait. Call the local DFG office to retreive it.

No New Posts Bug Bonanza!! (Preview)
Take your pick all the bugs were hatching today.  BWOs, midges, little winter stones, little yellow stones, big mayflies that look like March Browns, but are probably Pink Alberts and quite a few glossies.  I guess they had no choice but to hatch.  Flows went down about 50 CFS and it was probably hatch...

No New Posts Skunked (Preview)
Went fishing a couple of days ago hoping to catch a few out of spot 4 and 5 but not a single fish hit my nymphs after 6 hrs of constant dredging. Water was not muddy, only a slight tint, but flow was pretty low. Are the fish hiding for some reason? Anyway, will follow suggestions from this forum and try agai...

No New Posts Creek blown out (Preview)
Took a drive to see what the creek looked like.  Very brown zero visibility.  Cold Creek and Thompson are both dumping in silt. Also getting a good amount of silt from a few new gullies around the burn area mid creek.  It is funny I saw someone trying to fish with zero visibility.

New here, not really new to fishing Puta(h) Creek, but I haven't fished the creek since the early 1990's. Mostly been heading to Idaho, Wyoming, Montana to fish, but just retired so I want to re-visit the Creek and other local waters. It's my recollection that this is spawning season, at least until la...

No New Posts Trout Survives Poacher (Preview)
Hello Putah Creek Fly Fishers,  I spent 6 hours at the creek today and caught a single 12" rainbow at spot #4. The trout had a large hook (maybe #8 or #10) and line embedded deep into its tongue. The line was looped to a large steel clip with a small plastic rod connected to it. Looked like a broken...

Here's the deal...I'm changing my tactics again this year! A couple years ago it was all about ditching the indicator and it's been great fishing ever since. What I'm going to do now is go more Euro. I got myself an 11 foot 4wt medium action rod (greys streamflex). I'm going to spool the reel with nothing...

The wife and I went for a little hike along the creek to check out the spawners since I'm headed to Trinity next weekend. It's great to see those fish are being extremely successful making beds were you can't access them with any type of fishing rod. Tons of fish at the usual site. We picked up at least 4 bag...

No New Posts Fish Out (Preview)
Any takers on an anit-Putah fish out?  A what? Yeah, Putah gets hammered in the Winter, which by some fluke chance is right about the time they start to drop the flows and the fish begin to spawn.  People post up, the bickering begins and Keith brings out the edit hammer.  It's never going to change, shor...

Spotted this truck and the two occupants fishing bait and huge irons for fish that are ready to spawn. Here's their game!
