New here, not really new to fishing Puta(h) Creek, but I haven't fished the creek since the early 1990's. Mostly been heading to Idaho, Wyoming, Montana to fish, but just retired so I want to re-visit the Creek and other local waters. It's my recollection that this is spawning season, at least until la...

No New Posts Trout Survives Poacher (Preview)
Hello Putah Creek Fly Fishers,  I spent 6 hours at the creek today and caught a single 12" rainbow at spot #4. The trout had a large hook (maybe #8 or #10) and line embedded deep into its tongue. The line was looped to a large steel clip with a small plastic rod connected to it. Looked like a broken...

Here's the deal...I'm changing my tactics again this year! A couple years ago it was all about ditching the indicator and it's been great fishing ever since. What I'm going to do now is go more Euro. I got myself an 11 foot 4wt medium action rod (greys streamflex). I'm going to spool the reel with nothing...

The wife and I went for a little hike along the creek to check out the spawners since I'm headed to Trinity next weekend. It's great to see those fish are being extremely successful making beds were you can't access them with any type of fishing rod. Tons of fish at the usual site. We picked up at least 4 bag...

No New Posts spending a night at the creek (Preview)

No New Posts Fish Out (Preview)
Any takers on an anit-Putah fish out?  A what? Yeah, Putah gets hammered in the Winter, which by some fluke chance is right about the time they start to drop the flows and the fish begin to spawn.  People post up, the bickering begins and Keith brings out the edit hammer.  It's never going to change, shor...

No New Posts Scumbag poachers on the creek (Preview)
Spotted this truck and the two occupants fishing bait and huge irons for fish that are ready to spawn. Here's their game! Take Go Pro on a telescopic pole and extend it out into the pools that the fish are known to spawn in, spot the big fish and then cast to them. One dick head with bait and the other with his...

I can't remember exactly where I picked them up, practically in the creek, maybe somewhere between accesses 2 and 3.  Black Revo brand with an orange neoprene strap.  I drove around with them for a while before I remembered I had them, so I put them on the angler survey box at access 5.  I hope the owner se...

No New Posts Paddle boat between #2 & #3 (Preview)
Just FYI, I removed the paddle boat that was stuck in the creek between access number 2 and 3. I've also made note of some other large trash in the creek that I plan to remove, tires, rafts, large trash piles, etc.. I try to go on days with fewer fishermen so as not to disturb the creek too much. I fish the cree...

No New Posts Spawning Season is upon us and PC fishery update (Preview)
It's that time of year again: big fish are starting to move around in preparation for their annual ritual. Some sites already have fish and redds. Winter flows appear in place at 135 CFS already because of the drought. Hopefully, they will not drop below 100 CFS over the next four months. Let's all reso...

No New Posts Crowds (Preview)
Hey all, Recent transplant to San Francisco and I have been waiting for the flows to drop to try out my nymphing skills on the Putah, which it looks like they finally have.  Looking for pointers on when to hit the Putah to avoid the crowds. Are weekends a no-go? How many anglers on a typical fall Saturday?...

No New Posts New to the forum, not to fly fishing. (Preview)
Hi all, I'm new to the forum but an avid fly angler. I am a graduate student here at UC Davis (equine veterinary student) hoping to become more familiar with the gem that is Putah Creek. I've fished it a number of times since I've lived in Davis with mediocre luck. I've been heading out to the Yuba quite oft...

No New Posts Hunting at the creek? (Preview)
Hey all, I just moved to the area so I don't know the regulations... But I was curious when I saw a guy walking down the trail near the bridge with a shotgun. I asked him what he was looking for and he sheepishly said "birds".  Seemed a little odd. Got a pic of his license plate just incase any funn...

No New Posts 10-23-14 report (Preview)
With the lower flows, I can finally get into many of the stretches I love to fish on the Putah.  Lots of 10-14" class fish to hand using tight line techniques and weighted flies. So much fun!  They liked the size 18 tungsten bead head PT the most....  A few pale mayflies cam off ~ 1:30pm.

No New Posts Drop in flows (Preview)
Putah South Canal is getting its annual cleanout of silt and weeds. Creek flows were dropped to 80 and are now at 100. The fast ramp down was a mistake which won't be repeated. Flows may bounce around for another week before reurning to fall levels
