Looking at getting a new rotary vice and was wondering what you guys use.  I am leaning pretty heavy towards the Dyna king barracuda.  They are out of Cloverdale so I would be supporting a local company and seem to be bomb proof.  Little pricey for this working kid but they are really nice.  Any thoughts?

Hi CJ,

I am a Regal Medallion vise user.  I chose it for its simplicity.  I don't tie rotary.

With that out of the way, if I had to choose a rotary, it would be the Dyna King Barracuda.  The stainless steel jaws are solid.  They hold large sal****er hooks to midge hooks (I tied down to 22, but not smaller, on a Barracuda).  The jaw adjustment and the cam lock are easy to operate.  The pedestal base is plenty heavy to keep it in place.  The adjustable rotary function is easy to fine tune to your personal liking.

If your local shop has one in stock, see if the shop guy will let you tie a few flies on it.  That will be a good test to see if you like it.

Enjoy the new vise. It is an investment that you will most likely keep for the rest of your life.

Any new vice would be an upgade from what I have an old Thomson classic.  You can still buy them.  Been a great vice for years but it's time to upgrade.  My buddy just got the Barracuda indexer and it's a really nice vice as well.

I was in the market for a new vise this past summer and ended up going with the Regal. It's a great vise. Was leaning towards the Barracuda since I had heard such great things about it. Let me know how you like it.

DON'T KNOW IF YOU GOT YOUR VICE YET, BUT THE DYNA KING IS GREAT. I HAVE THE KINGFISHER AND EVEN THOUGH IT'S NOT ROTARY, DYNA KING MAKES A QUALITY PRODUCT. I'VE USED THE BARRACUDA BEFORE AND IT'S SWEET. I DID INVEST IN A NOR-VICE A FEW YEARS AGO AND ALSO BOUGHT THE MIDGE JAWS FOR IT. THIS VICE, A ROTARY, IS ABSOLUTELY AWESOME! ANY ROTARY VISE WILL REDUCE YOUR TYING TIME.

THE FLY FISHING SHOW IN PLEASANTON IS COMING UP IN A FEW WEEKS. THAT'S A GREAT PLACE TO BUY A VISE...OR A BOAT!!! GOOD LUCK. JW
