About a month ago I went by Creative Sports in Pleasant Hill. On the counter was a telescoping rod that extended to about 11 feet. There was no reel for it. I'm guessing that this is what you are talking about. If you give them a call, they may be able to give you more info about it. I believe they said the rod was around $100.
Black Cloud kinda tried that out on the Little Truckee... Lol. Why would you want a simpler method of fly fishing. The harder the method, the more satisfaction.
About the Tenkara search old posts on this board....a while back Vince posted a good link. There is a pretty good website out there by this guy who prometes Tenkara in the USA.

To tell you the truth... I have a nice rod, but my reel sucks. I have the cheapest fly line you can buy. My waders aren't even waders anymore because of a couple quarter sized holes. I get your point though.
I find Tenkara an interesting alternative for small streams, and small fish, but I must admit, I love throwing line!

Lilwhipper the reason y that line is the cheapest out there is because I gave it to you or free.
