Indicators Part 2
Permalink

I have been using a "Thingymabobber" as my indicator. I really like them but have 2 problems. Continually leaving kinks in my tapered leader, or it continually slides down the leader, especially now that I am using a level 3x leader most of the time. For now I am using one of those slide ones with a toothpick anchor but would prefer to use the "Thingymabobber" (casts easier, lands better etc.) So does anyone have advice how to best attach a "Thingymabobber" and still be able to move it as needed??

Cheers,

Alastair

If you cut and then splice your line right where you have your indicator... The knot will keep it from sliding down. A yarn indicator will cause kinks in your line too. If you have kinks just slide you hand down the line where the kinks are... Make sure you grip the line tight enough to where you feel your hand burning. The heat is what straightens it out. You can also buy a tippet straightener.

Take a look at the   frogs hair indicator. They use 2 tiny O-ring rubberbands.  It will not kink your leader, easy to slide up and down, casts well and pretty easy to see....

I liked the Frog hairs myself, but found them to be a one use deal. So it wasn't great for switching from a nyphming rig, to a Dry set up. Since mostly you nymph Putah, they're a good choice. I also have had the same problem with the Thingamabobbers, and found that if I positioned the loop of the line, on the indicator and not around the leader, it reduced kinking somewhat and then I followed with the leader straightner. Looks like a Leather key chain.
