no love on the carp river today. Last Sunday it was mostly ice and unfishable. The steelhead run is still 1-2 weeks out. Wading is easy but you have to watch out for 1k pound glaciers floating down river.
Come join us for a great night out Saturday June 22, 2019 to see a great movie, have a drink, and support a great cause: Putah Creek Trout (PCT)! PCT will host the thought provoking and beautifully shot movie Artifishal which delves into the controversy of artificially managing fish populations and...
Hey Guys, So I am sure most of you have seen all of the people on the creek recently. It seems that your typical runs that are easy to access are always filled up bright and early and it's like a race to try and get to the run first or you are out of luck. I have had to think outside of the box to get to some spots tha...
Since I couldn't bear the idea of a crowded Putah on a high water Saturday, I went to the Yuba instead. The water was high but really clear and still wadeable in the bridge area, (but not beyond the whitewater run ), and March Browns and even a few Caddis were coming off. I however, a charter member of the Ca...
Are the current water flows for the creek correct? I’ve been watching the flows return to normal as Berryessa’s level comes down but 91 cfs? Or is there a sensor malfunction? -- Edited by Mike42 on Wednesday 8th of May 2019 09:32:21 AM
I normally have no problem with the guides, and am friendly to them, but I want to say right here that anyone who brings more than two clients is not being ethical, and anyone who brings a string of them to the creek NOT EVEN FISHING, but playing tour guide is shi$%^& in their, and everyone else's nest...
Hey, everyone, I found a net at guide hole side channel call me to claim it just a cheap wooden one but I am sure it. would be nice to get it back if I lost mine, as a matter of fact, I did lose mine a few weeks ago so if anyone finds a guide net please keep me posted Thanks Richard 707 - 294-4738
(on the outside chance that someone actually finds a net and happens to read this) wooden frame/ghost net bag Lost up near bridge early evening May 1st. I was fortunate to have to use it a bit, but unfortunately I was out mid-stream. I guess the wood screw I used to attach it to the tether unscrewed on me....

the water is over 10,000cfs, and RISING! Upper Putah is flowing into the lake at 10,500cfs and the glory hole is covered by at least three feet of water. The pictures give you an idea of what it looks like. This in MUCH more water than in 2017. I feel sorry for any critters who couldn’t swim or fly.
Looking at the water level for Lake Berryessa and as of 08:00 this morning it is within six inches of overflowing. With the heavy rains predicted for today it sure looks as if we are going to see the Glory Hole kick in and another big surge coming down the creek.
All: do do water damage to paved areas Yolo County has closed Fishing Access 3 and FA 1 to parking and use. Please avoid these accesses until further notice. I will forward more information as it becomes available. Thanks
Well, the creek is full of mud from the last couple of big storms , BUT, the gloryhole is only three feet from the top and they are predicting a possible return of the atmospheric river that hammered us last week. If that happens it is very possible that the hole will spill over for the second time in three y...
I do a lot of backpacking in the eastern sierras in the summertime, and would like to find a pair of lightweight boots or booties. some high country lakes require wading to get your fly past the shelf and its always a drag having to haul in my chest waders and heavy boots when space and weight are limited....
I recently found some spy sunglasses while heading onto a trail to the creek. They were below the ”resort” headed back from the bridge in the harder to access area of the creek. They are prescription lenses and please respond with the model for verification.
1200 cfs with pitiful visibility, but the Skwallas are starting to show and I had fun. They really nail a rubber legs and I lost a football toad who snapped a 4x leader. I’m going 3x now As visibility is low. Get some and leave Putah alone for a couple more weeks.
Spent yesterday (Jan. 22nd) out at the creek. Hadn't been there since Jan. 3rd and what a difference in water clarity. The color is mocha brown with 9-10 inch visibility and areas where there was a gravel bottom are coated in a layer of boot sucking mud up to 6 inches deep. Looking at the water data, on Ja...
Hi everyone, I was taking some fly fishing pictures on the creek last November 9 and got some nice shots of a guy fishing there. I am interested in entering one in a photo contest but need a release for the person in the shot. I was hoping that he is a regular that follows this site or perhaps one of you know...
It's just a tad early in the season here. Steelhead fishing on the Carp river, Michigan U.P. Probably part of the reason most are fishing the ice. It's interesting how you take things for granted until you move and no longer have access to it (Putah). Tight lines all and have a great new year. -- Ed...
Well, I made it down there yesterday. I went with a pal, and I can honestly say that if you are over 50, that's a GOOD IDEA. The trail down is steep, and once you get to the water, it is deep RIGHT NOW. And I never thought that I would want (or need ) felt soled boots, but with the scrambling over slick assed g...
so I’m watching these guys fishing various rivers on the East slope of the Sierra ( the Owens etc. ), and whenever these dudes hook anything over 12 inches, the guide uses this long assed handled net with an opening big enough to cover an Elk to net the thing, after first wading out and landing it with 20 fe...
So.... how does one get to the aforementioned water. I have parked at the parking place below the dam, where you walk down the road to the river, but going upstream from there looked to be a dead end, complete with some deep water. Is there a trail that I just haven't found, or is it bushwhacking. I have dri...
Took off last week for my first steelhead trip of the new year. A lot of mileage for two days. We fished the Trinity on day one. The water was low and clear. After fishing for most of the day with zero strikes we drove to my buddies cabin in Dunsmuir to thaw out. The next day it was north to the Klamath. N...
