No New Posts 4/2/12 fishing report (Preview)
Fished for about 4 hours, 2 of which were spent prospecting harder to get to areas. Anyone ever manage to catch one in rapids? I bet a lot of fish hold in these remote spots with almost no fishing access. Landed an 18-20 inch on a san juan worm work dropped below a #12 BH prince nymph. Picture attached. Hook...

Off color water and lots of hungry fish. Landed 6 today between 12 and 18 inches. Not a banner day but not bad either. Picked most of em up between the bridge and 2. I would say don't go too far downstream right now. Hot flies were red san juans, brassies, and olive military mays. Was wading up from guide hol...

No New Posts Parasites? (Preview)
I've been noticing multiple fish with what looks like parasites. They are small pale yellow worm like beasties about 1/8 - 1/4" long. I see them typically on the fins or areas on the body that look injured. I can easily scrape them off but they are definitely adhered to the fish. I'm guessing the...

Anyone have success stripping streamers on PC? I've tried a few times without success. I heard an interview with Kelly GaLloup and it made me think. If you've had success, what type of water and time of year? Dan

No New Posts FLPHF on the Putah (Preview)
I love it when my Flies Lost Per Hour Fished (FLPHF) is negative. My last outing I picked up 4 more flies than I lost. Some were really nice ties as well. Little jewels. Better than I produce and lose. I attempted a rare false cast at one spot and pulled a rig right off a twig inadvertently. I was shocked to se...

No New Posts Skunked (and Beaver'd) at Putah 5 Yesterday (Preview)
With the morning rains yesterday, I decided fishing was a better option than golf, so even though I got a late start, I packed my lunch and fishing gear and made my way to Putah 5.  (Why 5? I think its the prettiest part of the creek, even it it's not the fishiest).  From 10:30 - 2:00, zero fish caught and unl...

No New Posts Saw an otter on the creek on Wednesday. (Preview)
I think it was a "mountain otter." The fishing was pretty slow for me and a friend on Wednesday.  The water was gin clear although the flows were perfect.  I hooked 2 and landed 1 16.5" fish that fought hard.  Missed a few grabs.  My friend got 2 grabs on the swing, but no hookups. Not muc...

No New Posts Putah creek tour (Preview)
I was just on the Kiene's board and saw that Lance Gray is doing an instructional day the 25th.  Sounds like he's going over techniques, bugs and other environmental concerns.  Anyone heard about this or know what's going on?  135$ a head so he must be doing some fishing as well.

No New Posts What a way to spend a rainy day 3/16 (Preview)
I fished the PC yesterday after ~ 3 month hiatus. The PC is in fine shape. The flows are great. There was a little green color. There were mayflies hatching in the middle of the day. I think they were March browns. The dogwoods are beautiful. The poison oak is glorious. I caught a few fish on a black bea...

No New Posts Another etiquette situation. (Preview)
I went through the sticky thread on etiquette and didn't see this mentioned. Last week at the Yuba River expedition there was a couple (man and wife) who jumped on a spot in the middle of the river that they had obviously fished before and hogged it for about 4 hours, switching off so as to monopolize the...

No New Posts 3/5-3/6 - Fishing was slow (Preview)
I fished a few deep runs over the coarse of 2 days and found the fishing to be slow. The fish I caught were all with a 2 fly set up, the bottom fly a #18/20 micro may/brassie/midge. Part of it may be my need for a new strategy. Questions for the experienced PC anglers out there: Do you guys use split shot above y...

No New Posts Interesting lure? (Preview)
I was up with Steve doing one of our final spawning fish census counts during late February.  There was no longer any spawning activity, but a couple of fish still hanging out.  As I was in the water counting redd's, something caught my eye in the water.  I bent over and picked up this cool trout lure, pic...

Hi Everyone I live in the North Bay and have fly fished for years and have yet to fish Putah Creek. I drove right past the turn off to Putah on 505 last weekend on the way to fish the Lower Sac. I had a great day up there, but I really want to learn it the creek especially with gas prices going up. Any ideas for fly...

No New Posts Spawn is over, but the eggs and alevins are at risk (Preview)
Today marked the end of the second wintertime spawning survey that PCT has assisted HWTP with. No fish were seen at the survey sites today and have been dwindling in numbers recently. DFG is in the process of analyzing last year's data, but it appears that the numbers of fish is about the same this year,...

Time for another fish biology challenge. 1. When and where in the world was the rainbow trout discovered and first named? What was the name? 2. Which US trout subspecies was fished to extinction within 20 years of its discovery? Where was it found? 3. True or False. The Sacramento perch is not found...

No New Posts Predators on the Creek (Preview)
Here are some photos of a fish caught today.  It appears the fish was attacked by a cormorant or merganser.  The fish actually had tons of energy even though it had a huge gash about one inch deep.

No New Posts Traveling to SF (Preview)
Everyone -    I'm traveling from Minneapolis to SF at the end of next week.  I have family in Benicia which is only about 1 hour south of Putah I believe.   I was thinking about trying to do a 1/2 day on the water.  However I'm concerned with how feasible this might be without a guide.  Is a 1/2 day too short to...

No New Posts Spawn continues on: don't tread on redds (Preview)
The fish have been spawning long enough for eggs to be developing in the redds. Avoiding stepping on the gravel beds is even more important than not harrassing the active spawners. This danger will remain until the first of April, so be diligent and avoid wading on any exposed gravel until then.
