If you are interested in fishing for striped bass the river offers limited shore access.  It is a tidal plan so the edges are quite muddy.  If you go to the northern part of the river for steelhead, there is very little access and probably even fewer fish.  If you have a boat, the striper action can be pretty good.  If you have any questions regarding tackle and a few locations let me know.

Does anyone fly fishing the Napa River Stripers?  I would like to swap stories and reports if anyone else is interested.

Do a little bit of searching on google for float tubes and the Napa river. I remember an old link I used to have that had a lot of information about the Napa and the marsh/bay in general.

I have seen guys out in pontoon boats, but never float tubes.  Due to the tidal movement and sticky mud bottom I do not know how safe it would be.  If you put in and drifted to another take out point things would probably fine, but I would really scout it out.  Another thing to try in a float tube is the going into the different marinas and fishing in there. It seems to be safer than the actual river and fish do hold in those areas.  If you do come in contact with the water you have to watch out for the mud snail.  He has made his way into the Napa River as well.

most marinas dont allow fishing in them, however when stripers come thourgh my area in force this would be october (martinez) i sneek down to the marina at night sometimes and float tube it with poppers and sometimes live minnows or bullheads and flyline them, yes there are large fish in marinas and a ton of little guys, there is also a creek about a mile from my place that stripers come up into i really wanna try it with streamers next time, its alhambra creek near the martinez marina, it must be incoming or high tide to fish this spot, and the entire shoreline around the marina is excellent shallow water flats for stripers, i havent floated it yet but im sure it would work, there is very little current on that side of the carqinuez strait, i fish this place all the time from my boat and have litteraly been in the middle of huge striper boils, especially at night, when this happens its on, they will hit anything you toss out there, 2 years ago i landed 9 large stripers in about an hour and a half, they will pass thourgh here in force again in april. i used to be a striper fanatic, now i am a trout fanatic, so if anyone ever wants some striper info or sal****er info. in general, just let me know, if i dont know i can find out. oh and lightfoot thats a cool pic of the jeep in the snow!
