Thanks for the advice on fishing Putah Creek.  We did a lot of exploring and found some pretty good water.  My buddy and I fished areas 1, 2 and 3 yesterday for about six hours.  We caught three on red WD-40s and zebra midges (size 18).  Two were 12-inchers and one was a nice 19-inch rainbow.  It was a beautiful day...or course it's always a beautiful day when you are fishing.  It was interesting that when we drove by the resort, there was an old guy in a chair with his pole propped up like he was fishing with bait.  Isn't the season over for bait dunkers?

The season is over for bait dunkers, but than again they're bait dunkers and they really dont know any better.  I personally have seen 3 people fishing with bait after the closure, 2 of which I told them to lookout for the game warden they'll write you up cus the season is over and I make sure they know its 0 limit right now.

All this about Fly Fisherman are better that "Bait Dunkers" is really stupid and I am kind of INSULTED by it.  If a person is not obiding by the rules it is not because they are a "Bait Dunker"! It is because they either don't care about the rules or are unaware of them. I personally spin fish (and yes, I do DUNK BAIT) and fly fish and enjoy them both! All of this crap talking doesnt help either sport!

Hate to say it Moto but you were the first one to make any statement about flyfishermen being better than bait dunkers

I would probably be right however, in saying that as a whole, flyfishermen are more resource conservation orientated than those that don't flyfish. Yes it's a generalization and there are always exceptions but I'll stick to it.

On the flip side; if somebody likes to fish with bait, lure or fly I could care less as long as they don't leave their garbage laying around and respect the critters and others around them.

UMM... If you read the statement above mine, its implied!

First off, great job on the fish Mike and Mark, did you get pics?  As for the bait dunkers...its a little more than implied, i think... but that is one of the ambiguities of the English language.  All in all, there can be sense of elitism amongst fly fisherman (to the point that I consider it ridiculous...such as only counting fish that are caught on a dry fly, which at putah for 2 seasons would be all of one).  However, there is some grounds to that sense as well.  Bait fisherman can be experienced and well mannered people; some of the best fisherman i have met chuck bait, or lures...i do it from time to time, especially out on the ocean in SD.  On the other hand, you can have fly fisherman that are complete a-holes, who can crowd you out, and who can be very unpleasant to be around.   Picking up a fly rod doesn't make you a saint.  That being said, most of the littering, and poaching tends to be done by bait fisherman.  Generally it is because it take slightly more skill to roll cast into a good drift than to sit and drink a beer, and people who don't care about the regs or the creek, are not to learn how to fly cast.  All and all, this time of year especially, just make sure everyone knows the rules, don't snag spawning fish (which I have seen fly guys do), and try to keep the creek a nice place to go...at least until April.

All.  I suppose I should have said "a guy fishing with bait."  I "dunk bait" from time to time as well.  I didn't mean to imply anything other than I thought the season was over for bait fishing.
