I fished behind the Resort for two days this weekend and caught nothing! I got some good hits from some smaller trout using Blue Dunns. I actually saw a small greyish fly buzz across the water and get taken down by a small trout. My fly looks much like the real fly. They were jumping out of the water all around me on the 25th, before I bought the Blue Dunns. This was near the bridge by the resort. There were some VERY large, probably spawning trout, nearby in a shallow area that wanted to be left alone. Today I tried again with the Blue Dunns in the rain. The fish were not as active as yesterday, but I got some hits and that was it. Very frustrating.
I fished access point 3 on the 24th and ended up getting skunked as well. Had a few hits from some small guys on a BWO. There were also some long skinny yellow bugs with long legs on the surface as well. Will have to do some research to find out what they were and tie some up.
I also had a surprise encounter with a family of minks cruising down the river. They seemed content with going about their business, which was fun to watch. The minks I encountered growing up in New Hampshire could be down right mean so when these guys came cruising around the bend it got my addrenaline going for a minute.
Keep on trying. A bad day on the river is better than the best day in the office.
I fished 2 days this past weekend and didnt do much either, a few wild rainbows on a #14 flashback hares ear, 8 to 10 inchers. Did see some big fish in a riffle, obviouse spawning behavoir. Think i'll make it back up to the lower yuba this coming weekend, the area above hwy. 20 bridges opens saturday, hasn't been touched in nearly 3 months, must be some willing takers in there.
Ok...after further research it appears that the mink were actually river otters. I guess the mink I grew up with looked bigger because I was smaller at the time. It probably explains why I didn't need to run from them like I did when I was a kid.
