i think the extreme changes in flows are making for poor fishing. any opinions on this ? I fished all day today and only managed 6 fish landed, average length was 12 inches,  all came on red san juan worm and a black leech.

Low flows and spooky fish. The big fish were there before the flows droped and they havn't gone anywhere. They didn't get big by being dumb.

smaller or no bobicators
low profile
moving slow and quiet
shaded or brokentop water

my all time favorite san juan for putah is a simple tie with red cdc cross stitch thread. color #666 always worked best for me. The thread gives a very wiggly fluid motion.

Captain, a couple of years ago I had a pretty good day on Putah.  I caught about a dozen fish, including an 18 incher.  A week later at same area I caught exactly one 7 inch fish.  That night in checking the flows, I discovered that while I was fishing, the flows dropped from 167 CFS to 133 CFS.  I can't say that all of the poor fishing was a result of the dropping stream flows, but I'm pretty certain that it was a major factor.  The weather, the wind and the water clarity were all similar to the previous week.
