I was up at Putah for the first time a little while back and ran into a couple of fly fishermen who told me I couldn't fish from the bridge to the dam, that only members of the resort can fish that stretch. So I turned around and ran into another guy who told me I couldn't fish downstream from the bridge to the first turn in the creek. Is this true, or was I hoodwinked? I didn't see any signs posted.

Which side of the creek were you fishing on?  If you are on the bank across from the resort, you can fish wherever you want.  The resort owns some land up and downstream from the bridge, and that boundary is pretty obvious, but the far bank is open to anyone.

I was on the other side from the resort, I think they were having fun with the new guy.

yeah Archerdude I think they got you, although upstream from the bridge about 300 yards or so Solano Irrigation had installed a large security fence for terrorists threats and nobody can fish upstream from that. And yes as chemdoc stated the resort does own the property on the North side of the creek from the security fence downstream to the big grassy pic nic area well below the bridge.
