hello,

I have just started fishing putah and dont know much about the creek. ( only caught a couple of small bows) I have only ever fished by the bridge and the damn, are these spots too heavily fished, (poached trout)? i guess what i am trying to get at is, are the down stream accesses better in terms of abundance(4 and 5)? when is the mayfly hatch peak? and is there a golden stone fly hatch on putah?? if so, when is the time frame? also, any info regarding brook trout in...say...mendocino NF? or anywhere within 3 hr driving radius from SF would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!

thanks!!

If you're looking for brook trout streams, try high-mountain streams (about 7000 ft elevation).  Little creeks that flow into lakes in the Sierras usually hold brookies.  I think you'll have to drive at least 3 hours to get to brook trout waters.
