fished 9 hours and got 8 fish 6 planters and 2 wild, one wild was 12 inches other was 16 inches. not great results but after all catching fish is just a bonus. flows are high but not unfishable, gotta concentrate on small areas at a time and be pateint. I found the resort area right below monticello damn very crowded and rather unpleasant to fish. I have always found  good results fishing under overhanging trees and exposed root systems. I did have the oppurtinity to observe several otters, never have seen this before. anyways, can anyone recomend any other trout streams/rivers within 2 hours drive of s.f bay area, after all i have been a total saltwater fisherman the last several years but really find trout fishing much more relaxing. as far as breakins i dont think you should park in the day use ares, park on the road. Oh and there are tons of misquitos in some areas, so bring along the deep woods off!

How is the water clarity on the creek?  The flows have finally dropped to fishable levels.  I think the closest fishable waters would be Hat Creek and the Little Truckee.  Hat Creek is about 4-5 hours away, and the little truckee is about 3-4 hours away.

Has anybody been to Hat, I hear it's fishing well. I am curious though it being one of the only games in town how is the foot traffic? That PH2 riffle can be a little crowded.

considering the high flows the water had decent clarity. looks like flows have been dropping a little all week. so i'll be out there bright and early, hope to have some good news to report.

Just wanted to throw in an update as well, I landed 9 on Friday and 13 on Sunday fishing under the bridge. I was camping there. All fish came on the same rig with both flies producing, #12 Red copper john up top, #16 rubberleg mayfly pattern in rust/olive combo. I was washing my truck after the last trip and had a few "clingers" that were not smashed too bad to tell what they were. The clarity was better last weekend, as the creek drops it appears to be clouding up a bit. I saw a couple of familiar faces over the weekend but still have not met anyone yet...either way, if you did'nt fish the high flows, you missed out on some really goofy fishing that produced the biggest fish for me in putah yet.
