Hi, everyone. I'm gonna go full sob story here to try to pull on your emotional strings for my personal benefit . My wife and I and our two cats (Party Charlie and Giza) were all able to escape unscathed. But, we lost just about everything. I woke up around 12:30 at night. I thought my cats or a raccoon, perhaps, was scratching at the window. I'm still not sure what woke me up, but maybe it was just the winds blowing the trees/bushes against a window. When I started looking for the suspected raccoon, I saw that the entire ridge (Atlas Peak) across the road was burning. The winds were kind of blowing the opposite-from-normal direction, so they were actually moving the fire somewhat away from us. I thought there was a chance we might escape it, but I knew we couldn't stay. Due to the direction of the burn, and where the fire already was, we couldn't drive towards Napa on our road, and only had one direction to go, which was toward what appeared to be the rear flank of the fire and into Wooden Valley. There was no real way to see where the rear flank of the fire was, since it was over the hill. So, if that flank had circled back a bit to the south (the winds were blowing towards the southwest), which was very possible, we would have been trapped. As soon as the fire started cresting the ridge of Atlas, I knew we had to go. We got our cats, and about two bags of clothing, and for some reason my wife grabbed a can of cannelloni beans (no can opener though of course), and we left unscathed. So, now I am trying to replace at least some of my rods. If anyone has a line on any of the following essential (lol) rods, it would be much appreciated:
Single Handers: G Loomis NRX LP 9' 5wt Winston BIIIx 9' 7wt
The reels I had paired with these two hander rods were Hardy Ultralite CADD 9000 and a Tibor Gulfstream.
While we were crashing at a hotel in Suisun City, hoping for the fate of our house and our belongings, we found the following pictures on the internet, which confirmed what we already suspected/knew. This was our home.
Don't feel too badly for us, as we are not alone. There are many others who lost their homes, livelihoods, pets, and even family members. There are many still going through what we have already confirmed for ourselves, as the fires are still raging. Most of the evacuation orders and road closures are still in place and they have just begun containing the fires. This is going to be a very long road for all of those involved to get our lives back to normal.
Wishing everyone tight lines, and better fortunes.
I have a G Loomis GL3 9' 5wt that was given to me free of charge, I'm offering it to you for the same price. Zero. Tough situation out there to say the least. email me at dylan@putahcreektrout.org
So sorry to hear/see your house.....good Lord that's awful!!
I have a 7wt Sage rod that I bought when I was new and I NEVER use-- it's a good rod though. I am happy-- I would be honored, actually-- to give it to you and your family if you would like it. Best to just write me back on here since I also never check my private messages....lol or you can text Richard Loft at 707-294-4738 and we can arrange how to get it to you.
Peace......
