I was fishing out in bolinas this morning in the lagoon and caught three lincod on streamers. I had a blast feeling the fish attack the big flies. Has anyone ever fished Putah with streamers or tube flies? I feel it could be an effective technique at the large pool below monticello. I have personally never tried this method on the PC but it has been effective on the Truckee and the McCloud...
Glad you posted this! Unfortunately I don't have the answer you're looking for but I have thought if this. I lived in Ashland for a short time and used to fish the Holy Water of the Rogue in this manner right below the dam. This has sparked interest and I'm hoping to test the theory this week. You should too!
I have fished streamers off and on in Putah for over 30 years. Many years ago I did have limited luck, but the last 15 or so years I've not had much luck at all, but I also don't spend a lot of time doing it either.
Streamers definitely work in putah. It is my main go to. I run two streamers in tandem, different colors and different sizes. I also regularly drop a nymph off one streamer. Dead drift it, tight line it, or swing it, streamers work on putah all through the creek.
During the spring and fall when the flows are around 400 CFS I will tie on a wiggle tail olive and throw it at Access 1 and the staircase below the bridge. Seems to get bit. Also if floating down and around the creek in the summer crash the banks with various streamers and soft hackles. The wiggle tail seems to work best. It represents a damsel fly. Olive bugger a little later when you start seeing the dragon flies.
