I just moved to the North Bay for a job and I am desperate to wet my line. I have no idea what the area holds, but I am eager to start exploring. Ideally I like to fish for trout in moving water. Does anyone have any suggestions for trout streams within 100 miles of Novato, CA? I am not asking you to give up your special spots and turnouts, just which rivers and streams hold trout nearby.
I am from San Luis Obispo. I have done most of my fishing in Mammoth and Yosemite, so I am most comfortable on small wadable streams as opposed to big water and drift boats. It's a long drive to trout water from SLO (7.5 hrs to Mammoth), so I have always done longer trips. But now that I am in Northern California I am hoping to do some day trips and overnighters as well.
Thank you all for being so helpful. Rossflyguy, I have fly fished ocean, surf, bass ponds, lakes, and rivers large and small; but every fisherman/woman has their favorites. I have a weakness for trout. They are some of the most beautiful fish, and they live in some of the most scenic places on earth. There is nothing quite like hooking into a wild trout after a long hike.
