So, I fished Tuesday and Friday this week and caught a bunch of bows each day between 6-14" fairly consistently on similar patterns. Toward the end of the day Friday, I used a slightly different pattern after losing my "good" flies, (within like 5 casts I lost 4 flies - I'm an idiot) and I landed 2 of the nicer bows (12-14") on this new pattern. So, today, I used the new pattern on point, with the old pattern on a dropper. I caught an 8-10" on my third cast and assumed I was dialed in for the day. Then, I saw a hatch taking place and fished the heck out of it - nothing. Then, nothing for the next 2-3 hours - not even a wink of a bite. Re-rigged, totally different colors, and landed a fish immediately. Then, the dude I was fishing with started landing a bunch of fish, in totally different depths of water than was fishing the last few days. It seems like the fish moved to a different depth and started feeding on different patterns within 2 days? Maybe, the clouds/rain?
Incidentally, I went back Monday night and the original patterns were hitting again. It was really nice - I was the only one there. Lots more birds and wildlife. Giant blue heron came by. I hooked something super heavy and strong right around dusk, but it snapped my line. It was a big'un no doubt. Shoulda fished it more, but it was getting dark and I was hungrier than that monster.
