I don't know about the regs but put really heavy weighed jig hook pattern on the bottom which will get you down to the bottom AND have another opportunity to catch a fish...
When i was fishing for steelhead on the russian last febuary i had my license checked by a warden, he was checking my flies for barbs, i had a wooly bugger and a glo bug below that as a dropper, with a splitshot between the two flies. Thought that was cool, but he informed me it was illegal technically, though he wouldnt cite me for it, and that no weight may be placed below any hook, regardless of how many hooks/artificials are used. That said ive heard conflicting things about it.
Ya our fish and game say it's legal. The check nymph rig with a split shot instead of a fly but your fishing at ur own risk I guess I can't get a true answer. Game warden said ok a few guides said illegal. Some Said legal so idk. Fish and game say it is unlawful to use any weight directly attached below a hook but that's a big grey area
I've been told different by the game warden and if u call fish and game region 3 and ask them about code 2.10. It read it is unlawful for anyone to run weight directly attached below a hook and the fish and game department read the whole code and said it was legal to run but I don't know if they even know there own codes
I'm lost lol I've had guides say it's illegal and guides say it's a staging rule for salmon and who the blank snags with a 22 size hook lol so to be safe Czech rig with big beadhead nymphs lol.
Not sure if it's legal or not but how about unethical? Too good a chance to snag fish. I never fish that way... almost as bad as a pegged bead above a hook.
