Hello to all: PCT is beginning new projects this year as a continuation of the recent Wild Trout designation with expansion of critical habitats. These projects include stream bed alterations to open up certain side channels to increased summer flows which will expand protected habitat for Young of the Year (YOY). A second project is to continue spawning habitat expansion by removing silt and weeds from armored gravel and provide supplement gravels where needed. We are partnering with Trout Unlimited, California Fly Fishers Unlimited and CDFW, with additional local support from Granite Bay Flyfishers, Fly Fishers of Davis and several bay region clubs.
The first scheduled project task is to survey 3 side channels to establish monitoring sites for the two year study. At least 3-5 volunteers are needed to assist with setting monuments at 2 of the study sites on this coming Thursday. Training in survey procedures will be provided on site; a training manual can be provided by email in advance. The training is in advance of the start of the project monitoring in October. Until then pre-project data will be collected at intervals from now until October. Additional volunteer scheduling will follow this initial. We will try to schedule work on weekends whenever possible.
The link below will take you to a spreadsheet that includes sign ups for Thursday and future date roster
Steve, give plenty of heads up regarding opening up the side channels. Winch, snatch blocks, come alongs, saws and tackle moving big stuff is up my alley.
