I live over in Sonoma County but I usually fish the Lower Sac from a drift boat. Im trying to get on some new water and try some wading. Ive never fished Putah before and just wanted to know if there is access on the west/south side of the river. It kinda seems from the map that I can get there from the Lake Solano county park but Im not sure. It also looks like there is parking right across the bridge from Canyon Creek. I will definitely avoid there property as I hear they have some interest in contributing to restoration work being done out there. Im a conservationist at heart and was looking to get into some of the work that needs to be done out there but I figure I should go see it first hand first. Thanks.
I ended up going out with my uncle and a buddy. We started at 4 and didn't catch anything. Ended up making a late decision to "just check out" #3. I caught two and got hooked up with another. The water was pretty clear. As this was my first time I don't have much to compare it to. Wading wasn't too bad, the primary access right in front of 3 next to picnic table is where I caught the two. I started with a size 18 midge with about 2.5 ft depth and switch in the middle of the rive to a 22 size March brown-y looking fly. I dropped the depth to 5 ft and that's when the action started.
I also fell of a rock and got soaked. All in all. An exciting day.
Good to hear you caught fish. I've been skunked the last three times I fished PC and thought of just giving it up for this season. Maybe I'll go back one more time.
