Hey guys new to the Putah, Went out last Saturday Fished about 100 yds above the 128 bridge. Hooked into 1 fish, on a #24 Buckskin. I had tried numerous flies, mainly all variations of midges, however coming off the full moon and the changing water flow (River was very Murky). Is this typical for this time of year even with the lack of rain?
These flows are definitely high earlier than usual. Usual flows are 70-80s For this time of year. What I have noted over the past couple years is relatively higher releases earlier.
Higher flows allow the fish to spread out but they can aren't as spooky. A bit of give and take.

Water is "gray" this time of year-lots of rotting dead weed growth. Flows are strictly a result of SID farming customers needing water. SCWA has kept the flows at 100 last year and this to protect spawning fish. Not that many years ago flows were as low as 15 cfs part of the winter during winter spawn. Thank you SCWA.
I don't think the redds well be blasted. Fish spawn in other rivers where it's running well above 1000 cfs. If anything this will keep the pressure off the fish and restrict oblivious people from walking all over redds.
Agree RossFG, the current may be less affected right above the gravel and the low gradient in the flow through the spawning sections also helps reduce the increase in flow rates over the beds. That said, 350 certainly may not be optimal on such a small stream.
