I've never fished with any of the sage reels. Not a big fan of their designs i.e. exposed gears on the drag systems of some models. Obviously not an issue with the 4200. But the other issue I have is their weight. Kind of on the heavy side of simi- high performance gear.
I own several Ross Reels though, and one of my first is the Cimarron #2 that I've been beating the hell out of since 1990. It's also not all that light but I can say that its almost bullet proof. It was the predecessor of the CLA that has only gotten better from the original. I've never had any issues with any of my Ross Reel's, so I would say save yourself some dead presidents and go with the Ross Reel.

Thanks.... Also, has anyone used the Leland Classic Trout reel? Man, that is good looking. If it fishes as good as it looks.... Plus, the guys at Leland are great, so I'd like to support a local outfit.

Time to upgrade my reel. I'm fishing a 9' Reddington 5wt. Two reels in my price range have caught my eye, but I don't know which (if either) is a good choice. The first is the Ross CLA. The second is the Sage 4200. From what I have been reading, both are good choices (which makes me say get the Ross and save a few bucks). Anyone have opinions?
