hey jl, wish i could be there, but ya work work work, but i do know this, next time i do go fishin, other than this thursday, i will actually be having a really nice set up, right around 210 bucks, gonna get a 6wt 5 pc reddington, with a nice ross reel, backing and upgraded fly line from american fly fishing in sac, nice guys there, if you need stuff go there and talk to allen. so next time i hit up putah ill be ready for those big hogs, but i might hit up the carson next thursday, i posted a thread in other streams, and thecaptian was tellin me that alpine county did some stockin up to 10lbs, and not the dfg stockers, so might have to try my new setup up there, but in due time with it at putah, i have all the 3x 5x tippets, 3x leaders, indicators everything, even learned an easier way to tie my leader line to my fly line with an 8 inch peice of mono, with a loop not, forgot the name, but it is gonna save me a lot of time tying leader to the fly line, THANKS AMERICAN FLY FISHING. well dont know what my new hours or days off will be, but if you veterans end up going to putah or fly fishin anywhere for that matter, and wouldnt mind company from a veteran (military), but anewbie at fly fishing to join ya, then let me know, hey who knows, maybe lunch on me, hahaha

congrats. on the new setup brian, its alsways great to get some new gear. The looped flyline is defenitly the way to go, I have myself an old army injury that makes tying knots a little diffucult but I manage. JL I may be up in that neck of the woods this sat. or sun. I ussually decide to go fishing on a spur of the moment basis. If ya see a grey volvo s60 with new car plates i'm in the area. I'll start at #5 if i make it up there this weekend. I want to get in lots of practice the next couple of weeks, I have a 5 or 6 day trip to fish the upper sac. and McCloud in a few weeks and want to be really ready for it.
Are most of you guys using loops to conect your leader to you fly line or are you using nail knots. I wasnt sure it loops would cause more snags at Putah being that we fish so low....
well me being new as everyone probably knows, i talked to allen at american fishing, and he even said use the loop, take a 8-10 inch peice of mono 15-20 lb or even a leader that has some line left on it those work the best, tie one end onto your fly line as you would normally do then put the loop at the other end, i dont know the name of the loop, i know how to do it, but you can also use a double surgens know to make the loop as well, it wont be as straight as the the other one but trust me it works and makes life a lot easier. hope this helps

man didnt know I was gonna stir a hornets nest with my reply ,yes it would be great to get together ,and I think who ever said it would be better to do it once winter fishing season starts for us ,get the bait chuckers off the stream and have the end of the season for some of us that are still fishing for mountian fish ,im currently working on fish number 5 for the calif herritage trout challange ,and will be making a trip to alturus next month and next weekend taking my 9 yr old daughter out to the west fork of the carson ,so later in the season the better for me . hey matt r ,u the same matt that does salt for redtails ??? deaddrift good to see that theres alot of us that want to form some sort of a group theres stability in numbers later tight lines
Brian, the loop you're talking about may be a perfection loop. It's easy to tie, can be made very small, and lines up straight with the line so that it doesn't get caught in the guides when you're stripping out line.
I use a perfection loop to tie off the piece of mono that connects to my fly line, and on my leader. Then use a square knot to join the two loops. Super fast and easy and plenty strong.
If I see you or anyone else on the creek who wants to learn to tie this, I can show you, and and I can also show you an easy way to tie a blood knot which is great to know in a pinch.
Good luck on that heritage trout challenge deadrift I've read about that on dfg's home page, Isn't it something like catching all the trout native to california on waters were they origanilly existed, It's set up so you would pretty much have to do alot of traveling to acheive. I think there is no time limit as well, Then some really cool art work of wild trout is the prize ? Brian, I have found that purchasing a flyline with a welded loop works best for me, I like the rio grande line, With looped end rio monofilament leaders. Its nice to see so many people interested in meeting up as a group to do some fishing. I geuss the down side will be to see how many people are gonna kick my butt as far as fly fishing ability goes
hey capn ty,yes you do alotof traveling ,ive been doing this for 3 yrs now ,as time allows, and ive prolly drove close to 3k miles been alot of really cool places, the prize is a 16x24 certificate with hand painted fish from josephg tormelli ,famous artist .and yes you fish the drainage where the fishies gentic make up first all began, hope to meet all of you soon ,and no worries about your ability ,we all must first learn to walk ,before we can run dbl d
I can't be there tomorrow...gonna fish the lower Sac. Glad you liked my cookies MX19...I'd say it was an even trade. Just let me know the date everyone can meet and I'll be there with cookies in hand...and maybe a beverage or two. I am really looking forward to putting some faces to these crazy names. I do agree that we should wait for JT.
This sounds like a good idea cuz I think I only know maybe two or three of anyone still writing in. My schedule is pretty darn open except for a trip to Oregon on the week of the 24th. Anything else I'm for. Budweiser and cookies are the way to go. Mike
Hey Mike - JL here. We met last year I think at access five during that crazy spinner fall. We traded some stories and I think you lent me some shot or something. Anyway, that was also around the time the breakins started happening.
I'll be up there maybe saturday afternoon and probably Sunday.
Hey deaddrift yeah i fish for redtails in the surf, quite a bit in the spring. How'd ya know? No Putah fishing for me this w/e. Instead it's 3 days on the Truckee.
hey matt was just a feeling ,hey you ever fish kehoe ,found a honey of a spot and Ialways get at least 10 if not more ,mixed bag .silvers reds and callico ,and 1 biggggggg barred ,fish it in the winter ,get lots of fish, never fished it yet in the spring
Wow it really looks like you all want to make a run at this Putah party thing.Sundays will not work for me as my fottball team plays on Sundays so Saturday would be best, but if Sundays are best for the majority then I'll be there in spirit instead.Myself and a handfull of others are forming a group to benefit Putahcreeks interests, when we are ready to open the doors for membership I will let you all know. But for now hold all the questions and as info becomes available I will use this forum to get the word out. Thanks to all Bono
How about a saturday maybe a week or two before the creek closes to bait chuckers in mid november, Saturdays seem to be best, as some folks go to church, and with football season goin on. I think it would be cool to kick off the winter season with a get together. Just a thought, I think we have to plan far in advance so everyone can plan to make it. Just my 2 cents worth, I do my best work alone anyways, But would be nice to share a brewskie or two with some of ya and share some story's and info. In my opinion this is our creek, We are the ones that care and can make a difference, And this year If i see bait dunkers after nov. 15th I'mma give em hell.
I've been montoring all of the interest in this get together and I'm thrilled, but it seems that we will have a bit of a challenge to find a date that will accomodate everyone.Sundays will not work for me as I have football games on that day,but if that day is best for the majority I will be there in spirit instead! We are still working on the Putah non-profit organization and the wheels are really rolling, the doors are not open for buisness just yet but we are working on it.I really believe that alot of the members of this site will want to become members and get involved for a good cause. For now hold all questions and as info becomes available I will post it on this web site.
i normally without a problem can take sundays, but if given time in advance then i can swing a saturday, just need atleast a week and half. keep up the good work on this site and putah bono, maybe one of these days our paths with cross, maybe even on a guided trip.
