Just starting to get into fly typing after fly fishing for 12 years. Any suggests on good "beginner" flies that would work well at Putah? I'm tempted to start tying up tiny midge patterns, but I was advised that I should start with larger flies, maybe in the 12-14 size. Thanks.
Zebra midges are incredibly easy to tie even small ones. Very simple. Keep them sparse for best effect. WD40s are good ties for PC as well.
Wooly Buggers or variants are great patterns to start with and catch fish just about anywhere.... Have fun with it! There is nothing like fooling a trout on your own fly.
