Good Day

Decided to go out yesterday since I heard about the winter stones and brought along my better half. There were tones of those stone flies everywhere I went. I ran into a few other people who said they had caught one. I tied up a stone imitation  and a dark lord but got no love on it. Maybe I need to down size to a 16-18. I did manage a few though but the little lady managed to pull the biggest fish of the day all on her own. Not bad for her first fish on the fly...especially on the Creek. Don't worry about the fish, it was one quick pic and back in the water. This moment made my week!0016.jpg

Beautiful fish. I'm going to try my tie of that black stone soon. Maybe it will be the trick. Looks like the water is at a great flow now.

Yeah, not bad to start off your first fish at 17". This one was slim and so were a couple others. I only caught one that was a little thicker and really bright in color. Seems the post spawn bite is happening. The water level is good but I think it could run a little deeper. The fish were scattered and I caught some in some random spots. Definitely going to try another stone pattern. There were BWO hatching but nothing was feeding any where near the surface. Fish probably still trying to get used to the water fluctuating.

Nice looking fish there and great one for a first timer!

Your wife looks like a model for a fancy outfitter.  If mine was in the picture you'd see a 10-yr old paint-stained sweatshirt over an old t-shirt and a Gilligan hat. wink

That's a nice fish. I talked to you briefly just when you were leaving. I had a little luck there, but not as well as your friend there.

the creek really isnt that long.  its not that hard for people who fish it a lot to know just where a  picture was taken

Just walk the river. There's a lot of good spots.

And make sure you poke your head down there between the accesses. There's a lot of good water that isn't directly off a parking lot. Listen for the sound of running water.

Or just drive along the road and look to see where the cars are parked. But with the current flows your choices are kinda limited. Most of the places I'm familiar with are under too much water at this time.

There is a fly fishing event this Saturday at Putah. That might be a good place to meet some locals and try and get some insider info.

Heh, I didn't check the flows last weekend, rushed into my favorite hole (which in low flows I could wade really far in to and tightline nymph), and BAM I almost got swept away. Three signs summer is coming: I crave more beers, more taco, and Putah's flows are high.
