Lower Yuba 11/23 - Small World dept.

Now that work is finally beginning to slow down, I can get a few fishing days in before the end of the year.  It's been a nuthouse this year, but all in a good way.

I was originally plannning to fish the Lower Yuba on 12/2, above the bridge after it opens.  In looking at the weather reports, with all of the rain on it's way beginning Wednesda,y I'll bet it's going to be blown and a mudbowl this weekend.  I decided to ge the Niner game on Tevo and beat tracks up to river on Sunday.

There are still a few salmon hanging about, even some late spawners.  The egg bite is in no way over, but far from it's peak.  The day was beautiful.  As I'm working a run, someone yells out to me from behind.  I turn around and recognize the face, but can't believe it was possibly him . . . Jerry Lewis, former fellow PCT board member!!!  Geeze, what the heck is he doing out here from New York???  Well, Jerry is in Houston, about 6 months now.  Goodbye New York.  He had a business meeting in SF on Monday and came out a day early with his gear to hit the end of the egg bite.  We went ahead and fished the rest of he day together.

We were fishing down at the island and got a bonus show.  While we were fishing, one of the locals lands his airplane on the island to come over and watch us fish???  Those balloon tires do work.

I can report that all of these moves have not affected Jerry's fishing, as he landed 26ish fish this day.  Just knocked 'em dead.  Of course, we retired to the Happy Viking after the day to get further caught up over their excellent chicken wings, and some of their 50 beers on tap.  Jerry was still on cloud nine with his alma matter, Stanford, having beaten Oregon last week.

Below is a picture of Jerry with a full net once again and one of the beautiful day on the river .

 As I say, small world.

Running into Jerry...hat's amazing....and the post did make me somewhat "homesick". Just landed a proper job back in SA so now looks like I might never make it back to that part of the world. That said Bob.... the golf, beer are pretty good in South Africa. The fishing well I haven't figured that out yet.... but am starting to plan a Tiger trip in Zambia if anyone is interested?? Anyway nice to see some pics of an old favourite!!!

Cheers  AA

The beer and golf sound great, but tigers???????  I think I'll pass.  However, we are planning Montana 2013, so there's a reason for you to come back next year.  It's over the long 4th of July weekend.  Should we count you in?
