Below is the information about the electro-fishing survey that Heritage and Wild Trout Program will conduct in mid October. As you can see, there are numerous opportunities during that week to volunteer. At the bottom of this post there is a link to the volunteer sign-up page. Note that this is a weekday operation and that we need at least 30 volunteers, six or more per day. Thank you and we hope to see you out there.

Members and Friends:

Below is the information provided by Stephanie Mehalick of HWTP for the electrofishing study. If you can participate, please click on the link below to go to the sign up spreadsheet. There you will find the dates and info needed. Half day attendance will be considered, if full day openings aren't completely filled. We need, at a minimum, your email for future contact. This is a very important survey, as well as a lot of fun, so please consider joining the effort. If you are a club member or officer, please forward to your membership.

"The California Department of Fish and Game Heritage and Wild Trout Program (HWTP) is requesting volunteer assistance for electrofishing surveys in Putah Creek this October. Since 2007, the HWTP has been evaluating Putah Creek for potential designation as a Wild Trout Water. The upcoming October surveys will be a continuation of this effort to gather baseline information on the wild fishery and habitat. The HWTP needs between six and ten volunteers each day from Monday, October 15th through Friday, October 19th, 2012. Volunteers will be needed to net fish, tend live cars, measure fish, take photographs, conduct habitat surveys, etc. The work is physically demanding and requires wading in swift water and carrying heavy equipment. Children are welcome to join as long as a chaperone is present. Volunteers will be signed up on a first come, first serve basis and must be available for the entire day, from approximately 9 am til 5 pm. In addition, volunteers will need to provide their own transportation (to the interdam reach of Putah Creek), waders, wading boots, personal gear, food, and water. The HWTP has some waders and wading boots to loan out to those that do not have any. If, interested, please email Steve Karr and include the following information:

Name(s)
Date(s) available
Mobile phone number
Wader/boot sizes if needed

If you have any questions regarding specific details of the survey effort, please contact Stephanie Mehalick (DFG) at 916-464-6358 or smehalick@dfg.ca.gov

More information on the meet times and locations will be provided to signed-up participants the week prior to the effort. Thank you for your interest in helping out!"

We hope to see you out there!
