I want to take some of the vets from the pathway home in Yountville fly fishing-- for starters up to Putah Creek. i am needing to get some help with boots and waders or an old vest that someone would loan or give to me for the express use of any men that want to learn to fly fish from the pathway home. And yes I all ready spoke with the President of Napa Valley Fly Fishers and was told that they do not want to get involved. Its just to hard to deal with the club when they have all these reasons why it just cant work ! I think it is worth trying and could use some help of any kind please feel free to contact me by phone 707 294-4738 and ask for Richard. I have all ready spoke with the Pathway Home staff and they said they are interested. Please any suggestions are welcome-thanks. Richard out
No one wants to help put a vet on some water WOW , Not even a word of advice or encouragment I think its a great idea . So sad for the vets though they probably think people are greatfull for their sacrafice . Its been a week ?
Richard I have thought about getting involved in the wounded vets program. Casting for recovery I think is one, and there may be another one out there I'm missing. You may wanna check if there is a local chapter of one of those organizations. They may be able to help you out if so. OLN used to have a show, hosted by good old boy Curtis Fleming and he was heavily involved. Some of these guys are catching fish with one arm, pretty amazing. Hope it turns out.
they list their associates and contacts. I believe they have contact information for a group in Martinez. I find it strange that the Napa valley fly fishers didn't respond... they are listed in PHW Regional programs and contacts.
Thank you both! Just seeing a couple of responses is encouraging , and I have already contacted two different wounded warrior chapters: one from washington state and the other I cant remember. One took my # and the other I emailed and I am still waiting for them to get back with me. Unfortunately, Napa Valley Fly Fishers has the healing waters program going and when I spoke with there President, he was less than positive. I dont want to go into details but lets just say it left me wondering--What the F? They have no interest in taking a couple vets fishing ?? I dont get it but thats where it stands. My next move is to go over to the vets home(Pathway Home) and try to do this by myself. Allthough Kevin from Sweeneys did offer some support. So I just need to keep my cool, not piss off anyone, and see where this goes. Thanks for the interest guys . Richard Out
Just an update for anybody thats interested , I went to yountville met with the Pathway home program director to discuss my idea of taking some of the vets living at the Pathway home Fly fishing and it is a go , It will need to be on weekends they are to busy Monday through Fridays , My Real concern is Wading Boots , I only have one spare set. ( that Pair is size ten') I could use a couple other sizes Maybe size 11' and 12 ' and or a pair of 9' would any body be willing to loan me some old boots they dont use anymore ????? Thanks richard From Napa 707 294-4738
Just wondering Has anyone ever sent Product request letters to co like simms or other major co for donations for projects or other things ????? ant info regarding this would be greatley appericeited Thanks
Rich: I can help you out with the boot issue. I have boots that I use for my clients that I rent, but if its going for the Vet cause I will let you use whatever you need for free as long as I'm not using them on the same day of course. I may even have a size 9 you can have, I'll have to confirm that though. Let me know. Greg
I have a couple of old fishing vests that still work great and also a bag of tackle (leader material, strike indicators, split shot, etc.,) that would be useful to anyone who doesn't have them. I might even be able to dig up a couple of old, but still functional, fly lines if you want them.
I will be down in Baja next week (yahoooo!) and am scrambling to finish work for clients before I go. I won't be able to get to Napa for at least 3 weeks.
If you want the stuff I could drop it off at Sweeney's and you could pick it up there. Let me know.
I Called Pathway Home and asked if anyone wanted to go FF Saterday morning and was told they had all left for the day On Passes The two That did not meet with Family Had gone on a hike. I called today and was told no one had said anything about the message left on there message board re: FF. I hope some of these guys are interested in going FF <@(((>< we'll see ! Also one of the guys is a double amputee I would love to get him on the water. They said he just arrived and it would be better to wait a couple of weeks before they thought it appropriate. Losing the use of his legs didn't stop mike from Off The Hook from fishing or carrying on with his life. He would be a great inspiration and much help with logistics in getting said person on the water.
PLEASE continue to support and comment my efforts in getting Vets on the water FF. I welcome any comments. Thanks- Richard From Napa
