Went out to the Yuba yesterday and threw a few flies. The skwalas are starting to show and there are some big green caddis flying around. Hooked a few landed a few and had a big grab on a mercer skwala dry. The locals from grass valley are throwing their top secret skwala dries and hooking up. The water is clear and low. I had fun throwing midges for a while. It was like fishing Putah with no one in sight. Size 20 zebras and a blue brassie were working...
If you ever want some company on a trip to the Yuba, please let me know. I haven't fished there in over 10 years and I would like to fish some Skwala dries, but haven't a clue where to go.
I won't be fishing the next few weekends, but I suggest you check out the Fish First report. Clay Hash also has a very good analysis of bug selection and fly tying instructions. With the warm weather it looks like the skwalas will be out early. Have also heard about some bigger stones up by the UC property.
