Two buddies and I fished the Stanislaus below Goodwin Dam yesterday, Jan. 2. Weather was decent for January, not too cold and the sky was overcast. Flows were in the 300+ zone, a little high for this time of year, but definitely fishable. Fishing was a little crowded in the prime spots, so if you're going, get there by 7:30 for access to the quarter mile below the dam.
We each caught about 10, maybe a few more, mostly in the 12" to 15" zone. Red midge and red copper johns were the flies of choice. There was an active hatch from around 10:30 to 1:30, with MANY fish rising, though we did not have much luck on the surface. My eyes are getting too old to tie on little hooks and to see little flies on the surface.
