Good work on the forum guys. I come up to the area (actually Live Oak) 4 or 5 times a year to visit my daughter. Usually fish the Upper Sac or Lower Yuba. I am coming up the day after Christmas. Reports for my usual areas were not good, reports for Putah were good so I thought I would try it for the first time. I came to the forum and joined. I discovered the fish conservation problems relative to the spawners and have decided to wait until next trip after the spawn.
Just wanted to let you guys know that your comments regarding laying off the fishing during the spawn now did at least some good.
I suspect there's more than a few folks that follow this board who seldom get to the creek. I have to drive long distance to fish no matter what, so during the winter I fish other tailwaters and in summer the higher sierra. Haven't been to Putah in well over a year.
Having said that, I admire what you guys have done and wish the season would change to the traditional trout open/close dates. If the spawners were really left alone and the creek could heal up and get the right flows it would be really special.
Best to all...don't lose your passion for the creek and :) Happy Holidays!
Mike: we Hear yours and others sentiments about changing the regs for winter time on the creek. The reality is it takes a super amount of effort just to present the case and defend it from the likely strong opposition to a closure. With the C/R change the stars were in alignment. We had strong support from this community and others, we had little opposition, and we were able to show up at each FGC meeting that year because they were held in Woodland, not moved all over the state each month. As a volunteer group with a small war chest, it would be too costly to do it now. And there is a strong liklihood that it wouldn't pass. We will focus on other changes that will also benefit the fishery, like habitat improvement.

SK60....I certainly understand. Frankly, I was amazed that the stars aligned as they did so you could get done what you have.
Whenever I read posts from guys who are dragging shopping carts and crap out of the creek, stopping to "educate" anglers on the stream, putting on classes about redds, etc I'm impressed with the way your group hangs together and puts in the time to protect you home water.
