About a week back some where on Putah I was doing a 1/2 day guided trip with a client and he hooked into a very healthy 22-23" brown. Took him for a ride and into some weeds, and popped off. Also at a particular time each yr there is always a bruiser brown hanging in the same general area. This yr good ol buddy richard hooked um and the fish broke off. This fish aka MOBY DICK is just that, a bruiser and each yr it seems to break me or a buddy off. Some day moby dick will be landed.
Like James said, they are they, just need to know where to look. A few yrs back a good friend pick up a nice brown on putah throwing a streamer type pattern.
I love fishing the creek late summer early fall. Flows come down, and the fish are aggressively feeding, getting ready for winter. During this time I move around the creek a lot and in the past 2-3yrs I havent noticed any redds during this time. Before then I would always see a few scattered about, but unfortunitly I havent seen any in a few yrs. These redds are a bit to early for rainbows, so I always suspected them to be redds from browns, but never saw any fish on them. Anyone else seeing this or should I say not seeing this. Sad really, cuz putah has everything browns would want. Food, habitat, cover and a lake to go cruise in with even more food. Just like the LT.

Fishing isnt about catching fish, its not about who caught the most, or who caught the biggest, its about the experience that you have on the water, and the life long bonds you make with others on the journey to becoming a better person inside.
I don't understand why Browns don't tear up the habitat of lower Putah into Lake Solano. I used to live back East and looking at the Creek it should have a booming population. I dont get it!
Oh well. I'm thankful there are good Rainbows in the creek. Although I usually only hear about them. I am new here but if it is managed well and if our efforts continue in the direction that Steve Karr Greg Bono and others are going we have good chance at a special fishery.
Three or four years ago I landed a 23-inch brown from Putah. Unfortunately, it was foul-hooked. Naturally, I was disappointed that it wasn't mouth-hooked. However, my indicator did go down and I did get the enjoyment of fighting and landing a truly beautiful fish. Believe me, it put a huge strain on my 5X tippet. I'm guessing it was in the 5 lb. range.
There's a variety of Brown Trout in the North of Ireland called Dollaghan, that live in a large lake, Lough Neagh and spawn in the tributaries in the fall. They get up to 10lbs and fight like Steelhead. I used to fish for them as a kid in the Moyola.
I would imagine that any Lake Solano Brown Trout would be a similar sort of fish.
