I took my kayak for a paddle along access #1 today. Â One little guy liked my #20 black midge... Â A bit of success goes a long way... Â It's good to see young of the year in the water. And yes, I filled out the survey! Â
BTW will answering -2 on the surveys get us more resources? Â Just wondering.
I fished up by the bridge today and bagged one 9 inch rainbow on a #20 caddis. My first fish on a fly since 1985. I also had a little wading adventure and was very happy my belt was sinched up tight. I saw one other angler up there all day, but there seemed to be a lot of people further down...people knowing something I don't perhaps!
Cole and I were fishing a little farther upriver today.. We both noticed a new color of midge today. It is greenish yellow with black ribbing. More yellow than green. Same size 20-22. Also there are quite a few damsels and dragonflies hatching right now. Finally figured out the damsel thing, and no you don't use rubberlegs!!!
The surveys help DFG. They need to have input on catch rates and size of fish. It helps them track what is happening on the creek. It is important as it will be used in evaluations for wild trout status and as a baseline for other activities. Remember that DFG will put more effort into areas that volunteers are willing to help out.
Great to hear the successes today. Another member had 5 fish up to 16". Thanks for filling out the surveys. Please feel free to add comments as well, good or bad. I don't think the value you give to the experience will change DFG resource alottment for the creek-they are already pretty much resource challenged.   Â
I can say that the few online surveys we received this summer from forum members have indicated an increase in angling success, mostly young of the year. More positive outings with more fish than last year. If folks will start fishing the creek again and report the results-that may give impetus to more attention from DFG.
Dr. Dan-if you woudn't mind I would like a copy of the photo to forward to Roger Bloom of DFG. As they say a picture are worth a lot of words. It will be added to his gallery as evidence of the healthh of the fishery.
Anyone taking pics of their catch can email them to me for forwarding to Roger. Its all part of the Wild Trout evaluation he will eventually present to the Game Commission.

Chris it was good to see you today. It does make me feel good to see that Putah seems to be sloowwwlly coming back a little. It may not be like it was but hey. Those midges were cool looking today and I found that fish again I lost swinging m Z-wing about ten minutes after you left.
Good to hear about getting that bad boy in that riffle!! That riffle is looking good this year! About ten years ago I learned to catch fish on a fly rod right there. It was pretty sick. 3-4 people on each side everyone was catching fish!! It was like the feather on Saturday except the fish were smaller on the Feather Lol.
Long time no post. I left CA for Detroit and did some fishing up in the north of the state over the summer and caught lots of fish on the ausable, pere marquette and manistee rivers. Nothing huge, but good numbers.
I recently moved to NYC, working in Manhattan and i'll have to go exploring the north part of this state to get my fix.
JL, when you gonna get your butt back out here and have a sierra with me? Summerfest is tasting good right now. Hope all is well out there. New York City?!!!
JL at least you're smart..... where you move there is something going on in the near reaches..... me I am in the middle of the @#$%^! desert in Spain!!! The nearest fishing for me is now nearly  two days worth of driving!!! .... oh .... and my fishing gear is in South Africa..... They wanted to charge me $1000 for the extra bag!!! Shucks I am going to have to buy another fly rod Â
Â
Glad to hear things are looking up on Putah!!!

jl, I grew up in Bayside, Queens which is about 45 min. outside of Manhattan. Fished the Catskills and Adirondaks for years before moving to California some 20 years ago. Lots of fantastic opportunities there. I'll be glad to steer you to some great water if you like.Have fun in the Big Apple, Viking
Alastair and Jerry great to hear from you guys again,Alastair sounds like your making lemonaide out of lemons, and Jerry try looking into fishing upstate near Rochester The Little Sandy River for huge browns, rainbow and some steelies. We landed browns from 6 to 19 lbs, yes thats pounds not inches! The hot fly was a #4 black rubberlegs. These fish originated in the great lakes thats how they got so big. Another hot spot is a place called Oak Orchard, good for steelhead. Anyway its good to have you guys check in and let us know how you all are doing. Bono
