Took the old lady out camping this weekend. I saw a fish chasing damsel fies but not too sure what it was. We rented a canoe and took it up stream. I saw a pod of fish that were roughly 5lb average. I thought it was large trout but might have been squaw fish. I didnt't see ANYTHING else from the fork down to the bend near the damn. Im not too sure where those large fish hide but it looked really deep when I got closer to the damn. Anyone fish this deep area?

There are some big rainbows that do make their way down to Lake Solano, it could have been that or there are also some big carp that live in the lake. I've seen them hold up in schools. There is always a slight chance to see one of the remaining browns in the lake, but that is a rare occurrence. I've never floated near the deeper water near the lower dam, but next time I'll have to give it a try with my heavy sink tip and see what happens.

Im thinking th same thing. There has to be large fish in the deep water. The water was gin clear. Those huge fish that come up and spawn have to head back to the deeper water. I wouldn't be too surprised if there were browns in that deep water.

That "deep water" in lk Solano is not that deep, its the old creek channel and is only about 10to 15 ft deep average. Those fish are probably the big suckers that are in lake Solano they tend to pod up late summer into fall. Contrary to what alot of people believe, the majority of the big fish in the creek do not live in lake Solano during the summer months and migrate upstream during the Fall and Winter months. They are all over the creek and are just not noticeable during the Summer high flows. We catch the big ones year- round.

Yeah I do believe they were the sucker fish. They had blunt snouts. Bonon you ever fish the deeper water down by the dam? I do agree that there are big fish in putah but there has to be some large fish at that end....maybe a brown or two?

Its been a long time since I fished there, I know there used to be pretty good fishing there years ago and some good fish as well, but not so much anymore. BTW had a really good day yesterday on the creek with a client. Lots of fish on drys as well as nymphs, looks like the creek might be making a slow comeback! YEEEHAAAA!!!!
