With the big Sierra melt well and truly underway, what should be expected in terms of flow rates and how soon should we see a reduction in flow?
Being new to Cali and not having witness a major snow event like this winter, it there any particular time frame when the waters are due to subside and how fast will it happen. In addition, are the levels in the rivers going to increase before they start to drop?
The following is a graph of the discharge at the North Fork Dam and as you can see it is sitting nearly 3,000 CFS over the 69 year mean.
I took a walk down to a canyon section of the North Fork over the weekend and the high water makes it very difficult to fish and also a little on the risky side to move around. I didn't see any fish but I broke out the gold pan and picked up a few piece of yellow stuff to whittle away the hours at a very full river.
Regards,
Denis
