I made it through Basic training and am now In "Student" Airman status learning my trade here is mississippi. But onto the important stuff, Im going out in 2 weeks fly fishin on a rented 18 foot boat for some redfish and I know this is the putah creek for and Im a long ways away from our beautiful creek I thought I'd ask anyway. Does anyone have any suggestions on what type of flys to throw? I'll have an 8 weight setup and my casting skill may be rusty but I can cast fairly well
Found THE article for you, American Angler Nov/Dec 2008. Suggests 9 foot leaders(4 foot butt section 30lb mono,2 1/2 feet 20lb mono midsection, 2 1/2 feet 12 lb mono tippit). Says fish in the shallows will hit nearly any well presented fly. Black and gold Clousers, size 2, crab and shrimp imitations, even crazy charlies or woolly buggers. Also mentions "Epoxy spoon flies" for when fish are up in the grass. I have no knowledge on these. Good luck with the fishing, and congratulations on your career path.
